Question What are my options for PS3 replacement

hey guys, well my last post was about my ps3 and the dreaded red blinking light, I should get my replacement from Sony in another 2 weeks or so, that cost me $150 but it only has a 90 day warrenty, if it blows out on me again, im screwed, so Here what im going to do...

Sell the replacement im getting from Sony, with a controller for about $300, im sure i'll be able to get at least that much for it as even a used one from EB games cost $350. Than I will just turn around and buy a new one with a 2-3 yr warrenty that way im covered. basically just spending another $150 in extra expenses... If my ps3 dies on me again i'll have to spend $150 again anyways so I might as well go this route.

Any reccomendations guys?? what should i do here... I just dont want to be screwed again, no ps3 for 3 weeks... Is this a good idea And what ps3 should i get.. 80gig or wait for 160gig bundle?

So let's see... You want to sell a refurb for $300 and use the money to purchase a new PS3 and gain full warranty. It's all good, unless you fail to tell the purchaser it is a refurb their buying and not a "used" system. If that's the case, remind me to never buy anything from you. Just sayn'

Of course im going to tell them its a refurbished copy... why would i lie about that... its a perfectly working system just sent from Sony, why wouldnt someone buy it for around $300? my main concern is getting an extended warrenty & which new ps3 i should get...

My PS3 had the flashing red light today too. I will be getting a replacement from sony for 150. I managed to knock out 457 WUs folding@home however

I called up gamestop and they told me they'll give me $220 for a 60 gig. I haven't checked ebay. I don't think I am gonna copy your idea though because I like my backward compatibility.

What I will do is this:

and immediately start playing the PS2 games I haven't opened.

And I'll still fold with my refurb. I think it's a worthy enough cause.

In Japan, that launch PS3 will fetch a hefty price even if it's used and badly scratched.

If you are set on getting the brand new unit, by all means do so. However, for what it is worth, I've been using a Sony refurbed 60gb for the last 9 months and it has worked flawlessly. If the refurb you get performs as well, I think you might be better off spending the extra bucks on some movies and games.

so I have an additional question.

I have a launch 60gb. There's NO way i'm getting rid of my BC. So what i'm wondering is... IF I up-grade the hard drive to 500gb.. then for some reason it messes up... Will they fix it with that drive in, or will I need to swap out drives back to the 60?

Depends on the nature of the mess. A HDD upgrade won't mess with the rest of the components. If that were to happen, put the original HDD in first and see if that works.

As far as sending it for repairs, send the original drive only if it's still under warranty. If not, send it in with the newer drive.

it's a launch PS3. so the warranty is gone. I guess with no warranty they would just fix the broken part... since no warranty was broken.

There is a 90-day warranty on repaired PS3s.

I would put the original HDD back in it. There's no guarantee that they will return the same PS3 with the same HDD in it.

One of the biggest reasons I don't bother to trade in anything with those guys, or EB Games for that matter. And the markup they put on your trade-in when its put on the floor is ridiculous.
