PS3 Repair Cost - Blu-ray Forum

Anyone have a PS3 that defected/died and they had to get it repaired outside of the warranty period? How much is it costing people?

I'm coming up on the end of mine and have had no problems whatsoever (because the PS3 unquestionably rocks) but I'm just curious how much I'd have to shell out if in the rare event something ever went south.

Outside of warranty is $150 and takes about 2 weeks from when u call them to get it back. I just got mine back on Wednesday and NCAA '09 was lodged inside the PS3 and it got shipped back inside the same packaging as the PS3

ok thanks, do you know if they repaired or replaced your console? i've heard sony generally replaces broken consoles with brand new ones, any truth to that?

$149.99 plus sales tax. Comes to $162.55 for me.

They can either repair it or replace it with a refurbished one. In any case if you had backward compatibility you'll still have it in the one they send you.

If you are in Canada, it costs $169 + taxes.

I have a fat PS3 that getting video freezing. The current repair cost is $129 (postage paid both ways). Also if you want the slim $120gb unit instead they will charge you $99 for a refurbished unit with a 90 day guaranty.

If they operate like Microsoft, they send you a replacement, refurbish yours then send it to the next person in line. This is done simply to shorten the process.

Yeah, I've got a friend who will do mine for free. The problem with Xbox is that MS has been known to ban accounts/consoles because someone other than themselves have opened the unit. The rule is probably in Sony's terms of use agreement too, but MS can be Gestapo-like in enforcment & stretching the terms to mean whatever they see fit. Sony, on the other hand has no problem with trivial things like that.

I fixed mine for $50.00 (Laser replacement)

It's not that tough to do.
