Default Asian back catalog titles

I am extremely disappointed in the lack of catalog titles available on the Asian market thus far. No Jet Li, no Tony Jaa, no Jackie Chan. The cop and historic movies are quite well supported but lets face it, most of the Asian Blu rays are released by Western companies. Just looking over this forum you can see the likes of Chocolate, Kung Fu Hustle etc etc.

Asia has so much to offer Blu ray, lets have it please. I could think of 20 straight off the top of my head which could be released.

Days of Being Wild
Behind the Yellow Line

I absolutely agree. We already have a review for Days of Being Wild and I personally thought that the transfer was very, very strong. I will also have a review for A Chinese Odyssey in about 48 hours, and, once again, it looks terrific, very film-like presentation with the heavy grain intact, etc. I'd rather have the HK distribs move a little slower but get it right.

One word: Godzilla. I will buy the Japanese releases of them so fast, it would knock Big G himself on his (her?) butt. Also any other Tokusatsu.

I would love to see some classic 80s Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung movies released on blu "properly". The DVD releases have been a joke for years. They can't even get the audio in sync! Police Story on blu would be rad! I'm pretty sure Fox will eventually release a Bruce Lee boxset on blu.

Drunken Master II, Iron Monkey and Fist of Legend all uncut, remastered and with the original language audio track (in 5.1 if possible) would be fantastic.

He aint heavy, he's my father doesn't even have a proper DVD release! Mei Ah released on a long time ago, but that looked like the LD port with embeded subtitles. The transfer was awful. The crappy thing is that Warner Bros bought the rights to a bunch of awesome HK titles, but they haven't released a lot of them properly. They have Drunken Master 2, but they only released a non anamorphic DVD that was cut. They even have the rights to Pedicab Driver! That should be released!

Warner never bought the rights to those films, you are thinking of Miramax.

Nope it's not Miramax. It's Warner Bros. They bought over 100 films from Golden Harvest, but never bothered to release any except for a few like Who am I, Drunken Master 2 and Rumble in the Bronx. All are crappy DVD's. They also have the rights to a few of the Young and Dangerous movies. This is from the Dragon Dynasty website and here's a quote from Bey Logan:

Quote:
2)Why have so few of the films from Sammo’s later career been
released on DVD?

We would love to release movies like Pantyhose Hero, Slickers VS Killers, Blade Of Fury and, especially, Pedicab Driver on Dragon Dynasty, but… right at the end of the Golden Harvest era, the studio sold around 100 of its latter day productions and acquisitions to Warner Bros. The films concerned descended into the WB vaults, and the doors closed behind them with a mighty clank. DD would be delighted to sub-license some of these classics, if time and fate allow.
Here's a list of what Warner Bros has:

I should have been more specific. They did not buy the Jackie Chan film Drunken Master 2, that was Miramax. Unless they are referencing Dance of the Drunk Mantis, which also goes under that title.

Oh okay, but I think Miramax only has the rights to the US edited version which was called Legend of the Drunken Master. Warner Bros has the rights to the original HK version which is longer. Either way, a lot of these films that Warner bought might not see the light of day. Kinda sucks that they have a few of the Young and Dangerous films. Those were pretty entertaining too.

I agree with the OP. I am drooling for a BD release of Iron Monkey. I saw it on the HD Kung Fu channel and it was stunning. They haven't played it in a long time. I should have TIVO'd it.

Email from Bey Logan
WOW that is big news. I emailed Bey Logan about blu rays a few months ago and he said they are working on it. I told him I wanted to see a Bruce Lee box set on Blu. Dragon Dynasty hasn't been that stellar lately though. I got their version of Fist of Legend and it was the cut Dimension version. The opening titles were re did. It was just awful.

Good news about them being on board with blu-ray, I just hope they are able to present the full, uncut HK versions of these films.
