Default Where are the huge back-catalog blockbusters?

I've noticed that none of the big announcements for blu-ray have included some of the highest grossing blockbuster titles of all time that everyone is clamoring for. Titles like the Jurassic Park series, the Indiana Jones Collection, The Matrix Collection, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, King Kong, The Star Wars series, The original Alien series, E.T. & many more. Does anyone have a clue why these huge movies are taking so long to be announced for blu-ray? These are guaranteed hits and all we seem to get are announcments for movies that most people consider a good rent at best.

Anything that has George Lucas written over.. Forget it for the next 5-7 years (he did the same thing with DVD)

I mean we ***** about transfert of catalog title, yet we want everything out now. A Lot of transfert have been butchered for DVD release and now they are stuck ReDoing it .. witch takes time..

You say it takes time but how much time? How can a blu-ray reference title like Patton come out so quickly when the movie itself is from 1970, and yet, movies that are less than ten years old can't be transferred the same way in the same amount of time? It makes no sense.

LOL Patton Reference??? it's the worst DNR Patch job ever. It barely look better than the DVD Upscaled. Look at the screenshot over AVS FORUm, Bluray Software Section. The DVD has EE, but the Blu-ray don't apart from that it look very close

That just goes to show you that it's not just about the transfer. I think I remember G Lucas saying that he wanted to wait until the market was way more saturated with BD for his SW movies. I read somewhere that some analysis company figured that BD sales would overtake DVD sales in 2012!?! And once they're even, I don't even think GL would be satisfied then. He'll probably wait for something like and 80:20 ratio in favor of BD. He's a smart business man. He knows how to get a lot of money in a short amount of time, that's for sure. And that's how he'll do it.

Even so, just compare the highest quality title on blu-ray to the year the movie was put out. You are missing my point.

dvd players first launched in the us in 1997

6 years for indiana jones
7 years for star wars

Why not just hire help to get them out early? The studios can certainly afford it.

I don't work for them so I don't know how it get's done. I'd rather it take 6 years and be jaw dropping then rushed and look like lethal weapon 2

just because these movies are all on dvd and have doubles and triples of the series out didn't mean they just came out two years after dvd was released.

and why is there no big catalog blockbusters? because they would sell like crap.

The best selling blu-ray has only sold about 400k and we all know that catalog titles sell worse than day-and-dates, so the very best Star Wars or Indiana Jones is going to sell is 300k probably, which Lucas is not going to waste his time with. He wants to be able to sell millions when they come out.

+ after a couple months the prices would fall and lot's of people would be able to find the set dirt cheap, I do think 300-400k is a little low considering certin "blockbuster's"

It's not their lack of capacity when it comes to a Lucas title..... that has been pointed out already...... Lucas will hold onto them for years.... in order to garner top dollar for them.
