Question Can you save games from disc (BD) to the hard drive???

I haven't got the PS3 yet so I don't know. But, If you can't is it possible for there to be a firmware upgrade to enable this?

Thanx people.

WHOOPS SORRY! Just realised the slight mistake on the title. I meant to say disk. Sorry. I cant change it! <Fixed Blue>

Right know there is no way to save anything from a blu-ray disk to the ps3 as far as i know but there is always some hack in the works for the future and with linux being able to be loaded onto the ps3 anything is possible.

I have never used Linux and I'm a bit scared of putting it on my PS3 when I get it. Is it worth it? Is there anything you can liken it to. And is it hard to use?

Thanx alot, your a diamond.

I myself do not use linux on my ps3 because i am content with what i have but i know there are a couple of steps to installing it on your system. As i understand it is not user friendly like a pc and you use commands lie dos on windoees to do certain things. There is a large community of linux user out there who could help if you needed any.

Oky smoky, cheers pal. I'm not gonna go with it unless I need it then. Seems the sensible choice.

Thanx again mate.

There is nothing to be scared about when installing Linux onto your PS3.

Sony has the PS3 setup to where the hypervisor (aka Sony OS) can always be booted to if anyting goes wrong in LInux.

Additionaly while the hypervisor has the ability to format/ partition all of the PS3's hard drive, Linux can only manipulate the Linux section of the drive.

While Linux is different from Windows, it isn't rocket science. It turns the PS3 into decent computer which gives adds a lot more value to it. The PS3 is great for learning Linux because you never have to worry about messing the system up if you do something wrong.

That's not entirely accurate. The Sony endorsed Yellow Dog Linux uses a graphical installer called Anaconda and has a gui called Enlightenment which allows you to do almost everything you need without a using a command prompt.

Installing new applications can be a pain (mostly due to Yellow Dog being based on Fedora Core 5), but over all it's nothing to worry about.

Personally though, if you don't mind a challenge I would recommend Gentoo Linux. It's lean, mean, and application installs are a breeze thanks to Portage.

Thankyou people you've been a great help. Thank god it won't kill my PS3, irl try it then. Now, I'm very, very new to Linux and I would rather go with a easy one to begin with, any Ideas?

I use the PS3 video converter....

it converts your movies to HD and PS3 format as well....so you can save them on your hard-drive...

If you're just starting out I recommend running the Sony sponsered Yellow Dog Linux. It's easy to install and will has the benefit of working 100% out of the box. Plus since it is backed by Sony it will be the distro that gets updates for addtional PS3 features the earliest.

You can either download it for free off of their website and burn it to a DVD-R or buy it from Terrasoft and get 6 months of technical support.
