so.... my ps3 problems after 2.50 update - Blu-ray Forum

ever since i got my ps3 iv never had these kinda problems but ever since i updated to fw 2.50 my ps3 has been:

1.

Freezing during Dvd, Blu Ray, Mpeg, Mp3, and Video Game play.
2. a.Starting just this morning playing NBA 08 the game froze

b. We stopped playing....about four hours later it wouldn't read the disc.
c. we tried a demo for Motor Storm 2. worked perfectly fine..
d.turned off the ps3 for 5 hours..... tried Rock Band Would look like its loading it then it doesnt do anything after about 5 to 10 min of waiting so we stopped trying....

im confused im not sure whether its firmware (newest to date)
all my discs are brand spankin new not a single scratch!!!!
and afraid of it being the system

......

iv been reading around this website for about a year now and have seen some remarkable advise from the members here... now.. please... can any one help me??

mine is running better than ever.
even makes the load times for FIFA09 much shorter.

Don't feel bad I'm starting to have problems too.
My PS3 wont play some youtube videos properly.
I only get audio with no video on some youtube videos.

If it's an issue with firmware 2.50 then I'm sure they'll release some 2.51 fix or something. Though I don't understand why a firmware would freeze some marchines and not others.

I would suggest the drive, but you say it freezes during MP3 playback as well. Sounds to me as if the thing may be overheating.

It's odd that it didn't do it during the Motorstorm demo. Try any other hard-drive based games?

I'm having the same problems also.. 80G PS3.
The last couple of weeks, my games will freeze, and i need to power off the ps3.
Last night i was watching Iron Man for the first time.. froze half way, had to eject disc and start it up again.
I probably had 4-6 game freezes needing a reboot in the last 2 weeks.

After problems like these and the ones with 2.4? (sorry, cannot remember precisely which one was the problem) I am waiting before I use any new firmware release to see what happens to others first . . .

i had a similar problem. at first my game froze, then it would not be read by the ps3 any longer (and neither would any blu-rays) and the loading icon would stay on forever!

i had to send it in to sony, i believe it was the blu-ray laser that went out because it would only read dvds

Yes, this sounds like a hardware problem and has nothing to do with the firmware update except coincidence.

Call Sony to have it repaired.

I don't know if it was from the firmware or what, but Bioshock froze twice on me during the playthrough. IDK

That's not the firmware. BioShock froze on me too so I went to 2K forums to see if others had reported the issue. I found that numerous people had complained about the same thing. 2K are releasing a patch for poor texture issues on November 20th. However they are yet to acknowledge the freezing issue despite all the complaints on there forum.

There have been many other complaints about video issues with the 2.50 update, however. That was reported on IGN AU.
