Like most people on here, they are going to tell you to save your money and not buy monster cables unless you have a long run. The splitter could be used to for two subs or if you are putting the rca into your left right input on the sub. It all depends. I use a basic RG-6 cable and it works fine for me.

Forget about the 60$ one you see in Best Buy...

Thanks, so is there really no need for the "Y" splitter? And as far as monster goes I have a friend that gets them for me cheap. I just did not know which one to get?

It depends. If you have an LFE input on your sub than you probably don't need a Y splitter. Get any of them. Most people agree that it really does not make too much of a difference between Monster or other. Get whatever you feel like getting.

You will output using the subwoofer out and input it into your subwoofer's input. If your sub does not have a single input however, only left right RCA, that is when you would need to use a splitter.

i dont believe this is true. mine doesnt and i use a sub cable to one of the rca's then to the subwoofer channel on my receiver. works just fine... save your money. you need the splitter if running a preamp...

Yeah, you can do that, but, if you want to, you can split the channel into left and right and you can potentially get better response. It depends on the subwoofers input.

I guess you did not bother to read ozzman's post. I will repeat what I said in that link.

There are a few advantages (some real and some claimed) to using a Y adapter:
  • If you leave one of the RCA inputs open, dirt may get there.
  • Some claim that using a Y adapter may add a couple of dbs to the subwoofers's output.
  • Some claim that the subwoofer works better at lower levels with the Y-cable.
  • The auto-off mode of some older subwoofers (e.g, Velodyne CH-12) may not come on at lower levels without the use of a Y-cable.
  • Some older subwoofers may actually need a Y cable because the left channel L may not default to mono signal.
  • Another benefit of using a Y-cable at the sub input jacks may be for reducing the amount of Radio Frequency (RF) and Electomagnetic (EM) interference, because you are not leaving the other input open and active. Subwoofers can be affected by annoying buzzes and hums.
Conclusion: Since there is no risk involved (costs only a few dollars), I would recommend using a Y adapter (2 male, 1 female) at the subwoofer's RCA input jacks. Make sure you use a good quality Y adapter.

http://www.aperionaudio.com/product/...52,39,155.aspx
"Why, oh why do you need a subwoofer Y cable? Most AV receivers come with a single sub output while most powered subwoofers come equipped with left & right inputs. By using a subwoofer Y cable for both the left and right subwoofer input, you can increase the bass output of your subwoofer by about 3dB."

http://www.bettercables.com/subwoofe...ter-cable.aspx
"Attach this cable to an existing subwoofer cable to split the signal into two inputs.
Instantly improves your home theater or home audio experience.
Many subwoofers have increased clarity and bass response when both inputs are fed with a mono signal."

http://www.hdtvsupply.com/ycawi1jato2p.html
"Typically, powered subwoofers will come equipped with either a single RCA connector, or double RCA connectors. However, both connections typically only require a mono (single) connection. Therefore, if you have both right and left inputs, a single cable connected to the "left" input will probably work just fine."

"However you can get anywhere from a 3dB to 10 dB gain from your subwoofer by plugging into both stereo inputs. To plug into both inputs with a single cable, simply purchase our Y adapter Cable along with your subwoofer cable."

I guess so, my sub manual says there is no difference with a splitter or without one...

its running a mono signal, splitting it is unnecessary

So don't use one! Why debate it if you're set?

I use one, and as I mentioned in a separate thread, I stopped using it for awhile and forgot about it until I realized that the bass seemed to be more subdued. At first I thought it was just the track until I remembered the cable. I popped it back on, and got improved bass response.

As mentioned- it's a couple bucks, and can't hurt to try.

Did you actually read what I said? How about the other problems such as dirt ? Many other subwoofer manufacturers suggest that you use a Y cable. Many high-end and low-end cable companies include a Y adapter with their subwoofer cable. Don't tell me that it is because of greed as Y adapters cost only a few dollars.

hahaha, dirt? my house is clean, not worried about that. Im just saying that i dont feel they add any benefit and dont see how, since a single signal is being sent then split? no point...

If you have a PC (not a laptop), open it and see how much dirt is there. It is not about how clean your house is. Dirt is in the air. Of course, we have more of a problem in desert areas such as California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, etc.
