Default My review of Quantum of Solace

So, I saw QOS last night...

I'll get this out of the way first - Casino Royale is better.

If you enjoyed CR you will love this one, but if you want a bigger, better film you won't get that (in my opinion).

QOS is a relentless film which seldom stops for breath, the set pieces are superb with a hell of a lot going on at times and you really feel the pain of some of the action. Once again Daniel Craig puts in a performance that is entirely convincing and you really feel the fight scenes, though they are not as brutal as CR's were.

This is a direct sequel to CR, the first time a Bond movie has done this and I get the feeling that Daniel Craig's time as Bond will form one continuous tale; no bad thing!

There is one particular set piece that I wish was longer, it is set against the backdrop of a performance of Tosca (opera) and is stunning - I'd go so far as to say, for an action sequence, it's beautiful. Towards its end it features a fantastic stand off between Bond and Greene.

So, no Q and only one "gadget" but no complaints from me. This is another cracking Bond film and underlines that Craig IS Bond, long may he reign

I've deliberately not put any spoilers in here I just wanted to give an initial feel for the movie, if you have anything specific to ask, please do, I'll check back later.

Summary: Go and see it, it's great but Casino Royale has the edge.

I was worried when Marc Forster said that the running time was 100 minutes. That does not give much breathing room for anything but the action setpieces. Oh well, I shall see for myself on the 14th . . .

I was concerned about the running time but I didn't feel it was a short film at all, it does work, though I'd prefer a longer film with some breathing space!

You won't notice it, the film doesn't stop abruptly, though of course as with any good film you always want more!

Seriously, don't judge it on running time, go see it

Well, the running time is pretty irrelevant as long as the movie is good. Far too many movies are too long these days.

Nothing wrong with a movie being 3 hours long, some movies are meant to be that long but most movies don't even have the strength to keep people entertained for more than two hours.

Pirates of the Caribbean movies, they are way too long. They would be much better if they were 90 minutes long.

I seem to be in the vast minority that just didn't think Casino Royale was all that great. I had heard so many rave reviews before I saw it that perhaps my expectations were too high.

Either way I'm looking forward to this one. I haven't missed a Bond flick yet.

I like this Bond and his much more human side than the previous "puppets" that played the secret agent. I don't know if I will like this new Bond or not but I'll be sure to see it on the big screen.

If you say that CR was better...QOS must be really bad!

Although Casino Royal has grown on me I will probably like QOS better for two reasons...

1. Olga Kurylenko
2. The running time is only an hour and 45 minutes

Quantum of Solace (Sony), has grabbed a record-shattering £4.94M on its opening day in the UK, which is about $8M in US dollars. That is approximately 42% higher than the first day of Casino Royale

The initial reviews weren't good as I expected but now that it's being screened by more people the reviews are looking a lot better. 76% fresh rating on rotten tomatoes (29 reviews). Nov 14th couldn't come any sooner.

I did not mean to sound like I was judging it on the run time; rather, that I was concerned that at that length the action would leave little room for the drama. The early reviews have pretty much said that. Never fear, I will still judge for myself on the 14th!

I don't think Casino Royale is a very good movie........ The whole card-playing thing just dragged on..... and Craig isn't a very good Bond in my opinion...... I think they're getting too "PC" and that's not what Bond is about..... it could be the directors, it could be Craig, it could be the screen-writers.... who knows....

James Bond would never lower himself to play such a low-brow game such as Texas Hold-em......... no way.

I've been pretty disappointed in the newer Bond films, and since I love the older ones..... I feel like it's watching an old friend slowly die.....

I've purchased them all.... but I may have to pass on Quantum of Solace.... we'll see.
