Default Opinions of Toshiba Regza 40XF550U

I am currently looking at this set on costcos website. what i really like is the 90 day return policy and 2 year warrenty that costco throws in

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11303092&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eC at=BC|79|43064&N=4018654&Mo=9&No=5&Nr=P_CatalogNam e:BC&cat=74653&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&topnav=&SessionID=04fd323f-8481-445c-9662-6d2543220787#

any one have any experience with this set, from the looks of toshibas website they only have one 40 inch regza and that is model number 40xf550u

Calibrate a Toshiba properly and you will be amazed and what it can look like. Toshiba with default settings are pants and I admit to that. I mean when I switch my Tosh over from the calibrated settings to standard it looks terrible. But a Toshiba easily rivals a Samsung.

I've had an excellent experience with my two Toshiba HD TVs. If it were me picking though, I'd try to find a dealer where you can actually see the TVs turned on and compare. Plus, I'd check every review online that I could find.

personal opinion, no hate intended, but i would never by anything Toshiba makes ever again after a format war that went on for 6 months longer than it should have.

As i said just an opinion, was very bitter about certain things against Blu-ray.

Thank you, am rather pleased i got that off my chest.

mine is properly calibrated as mentioned and it is as good as i have seen. excluding panny and Pioneer. guess some Tosh models are better than others. they are solid and reliable aswell. that said i would choose sony over toshiba- but pound for pound you cant beat toshiba

So, alexakajeff, you're back? It's obvious from your 17 posts in one day, all across the HT forum, who you are. If you aren't, then I suggest you stop the post-whoring and absolutely useless posts/comments you have made so far. If you don't, you won't last long around here. Either contribute with something useful, or find another forum to troll around and spam in. You've been warned.

If you are looking at that size, why not go with a Panny Plasma from Costco. The TH-C42FD18 is $899 and it has great picture quality. I have it and I couldn't be happier.

The black levels you will get on the Toshiba will pale in comparison to the Panny, unless you have a brightly lit room, then I could understand getting an LCD.

Its not that Toshiba is bad its just for usually $100-$200 more you can get yourself a better tv.

Toshiba 40 inch-$1000 (third choice)
Samsung Ln40a650-$1,175 (amazon) (seoncd choice)

I do not know how you feel about plasma but amazon has th Pan-th42pz85u for $950 with free shipping (1st choice)

I was looking at the Pan Plasmas as well. My only concern is possible burn in problems with the plasma sets. I am really at a toss up right now, all I know is that I would like to stay under a grand when purchasing the set.

The reason I am looking into Costco is because of the 2 year warrenty and 90 day return policy. Does anyone know if Costco actually has these sets hooked up to a high definition picture. Sometimes the sets look like they are hooked up to a standard connection

I am also debating the LN37A550 from Amazon.com for $859.99. Any opinions on that set

Bought one from Costco looked like s#!t. Pioneer, Sony and Panasonic are the best TV's made to this date. I would rather have an LG than a Toshiba.

I have a question. Why is Toshiba still making up-converting dvd players? They need to get their thumbs out of their a**** and start making blu-ray players.

I have the 52XV540 Toshiba 120Hz LCD TV and LOVE it!

People just hate Toshiba here for no good reason, still holding grudges. They make awesome TVs.

I highly recommend the ##XV5## series!

I have the Panny, I get image retention but not burn in. I have only had my TV since monday, but I love it. Definitely worth it. If after a month you aren't sold, return it using the 90 day warrantee.
