Default The Farrelly Brothers Reviving the Three Stooges in 2009

MGM has signed on Peter and Bobby Farrelly, better known as the Farrelly Brothers (of Dumb & Dumber, There's Something About Mary, Shallow Hal, Stuck on You, The Heartbreak Kid), to direct a contemporary re-imagining of The Three Stooges. The Farrellys are big fans and have tried to get a film setup over at Warner Brothers for over five years, but only recently got the greenlight at MGM. The studio has already set a November 20th, 2009 release date for the currently untitled film. The Stooges, made up of Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard, originally appeared in short films during the 1930's and beyond. No writer has been announced for this project yet, as the Farrelly's will only be directing.

Man, this is one of those things that just kills me. Some properties just really need to be left well enough alone. What could anyone possibly have to contribute to reimagining/remaking/reviving/whatever The Stooges?

If I trust anyone to do the Three Stooges justice, it's the Farrelly brothers.

They were originally set to do a biopic, IIRC, but it's so much easier to do a "reimagining" out of old tribute material than create anything of real content...

(Even so, at least we've still got the Mel Gibson-produced TV movie.)

What's amusing is that although many here and elsewhere are decrying about all these remakes and retreads of past properties, many of you and others will be checking this out come next November -- proving that there is a market for this trend and hence more will be churned out.

In the end, it all comes down to money as it is a business first and foremost, sadly.

Speak for yourself I will not see this movie as I will not see the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still or any remake of a classic movie If It's Not Broken Don't Fix It

off of the stooges for a minute and on to the day the earth stood still. im happy theyre remaking it. i never seen the original, i will when it hits blu, but the reason i never really had an interest was because it was black and white(right?) and im sure the special effects arent great being from the year it was made. but im 24 so that could be the reason. but im deff checking the new one out.

Is Jack Black gonna play Curly?

I honestly don't think anyone can pull off the 3 Stooges, except the 3 Stooges.
Am i wrong, here?
