Default The Three Stooges

The excellent DVD box sets all say "Remastered in High Definition". And they're being released by Sony. I ask, How about some BR of the Three Stooges? I know they would look great on it.

With them being in black & white, it's really not a big deal whether or not they bring them to Blu-Ray.

Are you kidding? Day The Earth Stood Still looks great on Blu and that's as B&W as any Stooge film. I read plenty of reviews on this site that says and shows how good B&W can be.

AMC is promoting a Stooges marathon on New Years Eve. In the commercial, they promote them as newly restored and remastered. Maybe Sony will give Blu some Stooges in 2010.

I would like the Stooges on blu and probably could see some released when/if they finally make that Stooges film that has been rumored for years to get some buzz for it.

I gotta check if I have AMC HD now. Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, I've been hoping for some Stooge Blus since I read they were remastered in HD. I'm hoping for Stooge Blus in 2010 too.

I hate ignorant comments like these. I mean I really freakin' HATE comments like these.

And regarding the second comment, why would they look terrible on blu? Do they look terrible on DVD? NO! These sets have been beautifully remastered in HD. It's one thing to say there wouldn't be much improvement (which is SO wrong), but to say they would actually look terrible?

These movies are old, but they were still shot on 35mm film. FILM has far more resolution and detail than HD. So YES, the Three Stooges would look great on blu.

Thank you. The DVDs are epic so I can safely say that the Blus would look pretty darn good. The AMC HD showings were pretty good, and the Blus can only go up.

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I got Wizard of Oz for blu ray, and the black and white part looks excellent. They can upgrade the black and white for the three stooges for blu ray. It's not hard with todays technology. Night of the living dead even looks good in black and white for blu ray. I would buy The Three Stooges for Blu Ray right away when, and hopefully, it comes out.

I have The Curly Classics on DVD (back from 1999), and I'm still amazed at how good these shorts look. A HD treatment would be outstanding!

Default Three Stooges shorts and/or films in the future?

Sony's HD movie channel has been broadcasting 2 of their movies recently. Those being Have Rocket Will Travel and The Three Stooges Go Around The World In A Daze. Both looked pretty good for the most part other than the obvious stock footage they contain in certain parts which looked a little rough.

The obvious question is whether or not we'll ever see their feature films or their shorts on blu-ray. The second question I have is about their feature films. I want to know what their intended aspect ratio is. Both films on SonyHD were broadcast in some sort of widescreen format(either 1.78 or 1.85, unsure) but they both looked kinda cropped to me. Granted prior to this, I've never seen any of their films in widescreen, only in fullscreen and taped onto VHS many years ago when TBS showed them around Christmas. IMDB says their original ratio was 1.66 but IMDB has been wrong in this issue plenty of times before.

The fullscreen versions I taped many years ago showed more information than these widescreen versions do but I don't know if this is due to the conversion to fullscreen for broadcast(these were recorded on VHS in 1992 or 1993), or if they were truly intended to be 1.33 or 1.37 and they've been stretched and cropped to make a widescreen presentation.

They did use widescreen in some of their shorts starting in 1955 I believe so the idea of them being shot in widescreen is definitely possible but I just don't know.

All of the shorts have been remastered in high-definition and AMC aired nearly all of them for a New Years marathon.

The magic quesiton is whether or not the market penetration for Blu-ray Disc will make it profitable for Sony to release these now.

I'd say it will be a long whle before that happens. It took Sony a long while too to complete the releases of all the shorts on DVD and duirng that time, the hi-def remastering took place.

With the Stooges movie coming out in a few days, Sony has decided not to release the original shorts to coincide with it. We can now only hope they release them to coincide with the BD/DVD release of the new movie.

I'm starting to think that if that doesn't happen, the property might end up in the hands of Twilight Time.
