I enjoy my Samsung greatly, but I have to say that I do not like the Toc in red. The only one I like is the blue Toc, and it only comes on one of the more expensive units. I wish they had a color option on all the tvs with the Toc.

Have you considered a panasonic 42" plasma?
You can get both the 42pz80u and 42pz85u for under $1000. You'll get better native contrast from a plasma than an lcd and IMO better pq. Both of those you listed are good lcd's, I just prefer plasma screens for most applications. |

I would agree that the Samsung TOC is great and so is the XBR series from sony however if you are not buying the top of the line from those brands I would go with
Panasonic TH42PZ85U only $950 on amazon with free shipping this, Panasonic picture and black levels are great. I am not saying you have to go with Plasma I am just giving you another option. ![]() http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-Vier...6590330&sr=8-1 |

although I don't like the matt finish on those TVs screens, I'd probably go with the Samsung on this one. I sell TVs for a living so I look at these every day and I've noticed that the new DNIe engines on Samsungs have better noise reduction than the new Sonys. and it used to be the other way around. On dark background the Sony gets a lot of noise (you see it as hundreds of little white dots, or snowflakes) where the samsung does a better job at cleaning that up. Just set the sharpness down to about 35-40, and the contrast to around 75, and turn on the noise reduction in your "picture settings".

Yeah get a plasma. Just make sure you always keep it vertical or you'll ruin the TV. That means the store employees or shippers could possibly ruin the TV if they get careless. That makes it a bigger pain in the ass moving the TV. Oh, and you must be careful of your settings. Jacking up he contrast/color could possibly burn in your TV. Might take a while, but it is possible to ruin your TV under common setting adjustment--circumstances. Black bars, which are common in almost all movies, could also burn in your TV if you watch for long periods of time. No kids touching.
Honestly, I'll agree. Plasmas look nice, but they're too fragile. I don't want to have to worry about the TV. I just want to use it. It's like OLED. They're nice too, but they have their problems which prevents them from being mass marketed. It's like owning a car that looks and drives like a Ferrari but has Ford componants. Last time I looked at a wreck yard, they were mostly all fords and hondas. Think about that. BTW, the ToC series is very nice. |
