I am wanting to get a new tv, and am torn between the two. I LOVE Sony!! But the prices of some of their upcoming sets are just getting a little crazy. I have never had a Samsung, and I like some of their new stuff, with the exception of all the TOC sets. (still don't get the red on everything). Any thoughts? I am looking at a 52" Right now I have the Sony 50" SXRD rear projection. Thanks for the feedback!

I agree with you. I the biggest reason to buy a LCD over a plasma is less glare, they completely ruin that reason. Not that Samsung ever rates poorly, but Sony usually rates higher among professional ratings...that doesn't include consumer reports, because that is a different type of rating system. Price set aside, I would only buy a sony LCD.

Its all a matter of personal taste. Like Honda vs Toyota, BMW vs Audi etc. I have 2 sammys (bed rooms) and 1 sony TV. The only reason I picked the XBR4(aside from price-got it dirt cheap back then) was the beautiful casing of the TV. If I had to buy again today, I'll probably get the sammy LED over the XBR8. You really can't go wrong with either one IMO.

I've owned many sets over the years including both Sony and Samsung. Currently we have a 950 series and a 630 series Samsung set. The research I did and actually comparing them in the store is why I chose the Samsung. Really it comes down to personal preference and what you can afford, either brand produces a great product so you really can't go wrong either way.

i have a Sharp, but was deciding between a Sharp and Sony initially.
I ruled out Samsung instantly since like other people said, the screen is way too reflective, and usually the side bezel bars are also glossy: a big no-no in my relatively bright room. |

Both manufaturers make excellent sets, but I agree with others here.....the Sony screen is non-reflective and the Samsung is not. My wife always has a light on....even if it's dimmed....because she "multi-tasks" when watching tv.
The Samsung reflective screen is out. |

Do Sony LCDs have better viewing angles? When our family was looking at the KDL-32L5000 at Walmart, it seemed that the screen never got darker when I moved in closer to the wall, with the TV above. The colors never appeared to get washed out from the side angles. Were my eyes deceiving me because of the vivid/dynamic settings and bright store lights? Or do the new Sony's have a newer screen that help with this common LCD problem?
