Saving Private Ryan is an amazing movie. Now imagine that movie in series form and you get Band of Brothers. You really get to know the characters well and you follow them from basic training, dropping into France on D-Day, all the way to capturing Hitler's fort. And the action is the same style as SPR so it's not some cheap series based on drama. It's a pretty badass series.

Look at it this way...

IMDb's top-rated movie at the moment is The Shawshank Redemption with a 9.1/10, followed by the first two Godfather movies with 9.1 and 9.0 respectively.

Band of Brothers is rated - by IMDb's users - 9.6/10

I am not a war series or movie fan. My brother made me watch this series, said it was incredible and I would love it.

Keep in mind here, I do not like these type of movies...

I loved it, it's truly a amazing series, you will not regret it.

Yes! Yes! and Yes! Imagine it like being able to follow the soldiers from Private Ryan throughout the whole war from start to finish.

I've hardly watched Saving Private Ryan since Band of Brothers came out. Pvt Ryan has some great scenes, but the characters and dialogue seems very fake and forced once you've seen Band of Brothers. I can't really recommend it enough, whether you get into war type movies or not. It's worth watching for the characters alone.

Default Great Mini-series !!!

I watched this when it First came on HBO over 8-10 weeks. Knowing Hanks & Spielberg were Executive Producers, I figured it would be a top notch accounting of the men depicted. Talk about under-estimated!! This is prob. the Best account, to me, of that war, those times, the men involved, getting to know them, how they thought, why they did what they did, etc. I bought the DVD set a couple years ago when it came out and held it for when I had the "appropriate" home theater set-up (Large screen TV, full surround system, etc.). But, I have yet to re-watch it for whatever reasons. Really I prob. just haven't had time, cause' you Can't watch just 1 or episodes, and Not want to watch every one over a 2-3 day period if you can. So, now I have a MINT Condition BAND OF BROTHERS DVD SET, never watched, that I will have to sell, lol. Why? Because it's been released on BLU RAY and I'll be picking up my SONY S550 soon, and this will be one of the 1st things I watch.

Saving Private Ryan was great as a stand-alone film. Granted, like most war films, liberties were taken for dramatic effect, but after that 1st beach landing scene (25 minutes of hell on earth it seemed, and the best Movie Opening scenes EVER - IN MY OPINION), it was still a great movie with some real good scenes.

B.O.B., with it's heart-wrenching 1st hand accounts by some of the Actual men depicted in the mini-series, is by far, THEE WWII Movie to own. You feel like you are almost there---cold, scared, hungry, willing to save your buddy's life at the possible loss of your own, knowing he'd do the same for you. So yes, RUN don't walk, and buy this set. I can't recommend it high enough !!

It's the ultimate depiction of the american side of the european front during WWII. Better than SPR, better than Patton, A Bridge Too Far, The Longest Day. I can't wait till they release THE PACIFIC.

I picked up my copy on Veterans Day. Since then I have watched one episode per night. Tonight I will set aside time for Part IV. Yes it comes in tin case, slightly smaller than the standard DVD tin. This series is just blowing my mind away.

Like everyone else I just cannot express in words how much I am enjoying watching each part. I too loved Saving Private Ryan. This is like getting a super extended version of that movie.

I have never seen the whole series before, as I do not have HBO. I only recently caught parts of a few episodes, but never back to back. Now I am starting at the beginning and watching the whole thing.

Great PQ and super great Audio!

I know this is a term you see alot in this forum, but Band of Brothers truly belongs in everyone's Blu-ray collection.

I have never before tonight seen Band of Brothers. I ordered it on Blu in the tin case, as others have mentioned.

AMAZING so far, I have just finished watching part three.

Neither can I, but my enthusiasm is tempered with the knowledge that the story of E Company, 506th PIR is probably the most intriguing of any American story in WWII. I doubt they'll be able to top it.

You're probably right. Hollywood definitely prefers cranking out the European front movies, but very few Pacific movies have been released in the last 30 years. Flags of our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima, and Thin Red Line are the only "recent" ones i can think of.
It would be hard to top BoB, but there was some crazy action in the pacific theater during WWII as well: Midway, the battle of Guadalcanal, all the Jima's.
