Default Fix for slow PS3 download

Okay, so for the last 1 year, I could never understand why my PS3 download was like molasses on a cold winters night, but after looking on the net I found nothing really helpful. However, when I look at everyone's setup online that had a problem, I found a common element. It's the cable modem. Yes that's right the cable modem. It was always weird to me that my computer downloads were fast, my Xbox360 downloads were fast but my PS3 downloads were slow regardless of peak or off peak times. At first, I thought it was my router, but replacing that didn't do a thing. I gave up after a while because everyone either blamed it on the PSN network or something else. I knew that wasn't it because my brother (in cali) would be able to download an 1GB demo in about half an hour, and it would take me about 2-3 hours. My friend in NYC could do the same like my brother with his PS3. Then I started to think maybe my PS3 was broken. When I eventually bought my 2nd PS3, it was just as slow. Anyhow, I know it seems like I'm telling you my life story, but I'm just so excited about this and I wanted to share with everyone on this sight.

Okay so here's the problem, the PS3, so it seems, does not work well with the motorola surfboard cable modem. I tried two different surfboard modems from COX, the SB5100 and the SB5101. They both were slow with the ps3 and fast with everything else. About 10 min ago I went to best buy and bought the linksys CM100 and my speed went up from downloading 1MB every 6-8 secs to about 1MB every 1-1.5 sec.

Now, I'm not sure if this will help everyone but it's worth a try especially if you are like me:

1. Good download speeds with computers or XBOX360
2. Cable modem/DSL service with supposedly fast download speeds
2. Very slow download with PS3
3. Have a motorola surfboard modem.

You owe it to yourself to see if you would get a faster speed if you changed your cable modem to another model besides a moto surfboard. Hopefully you'll get the same results as me and be just as excited.

i have no problems with my surfboard modem. just switched from a different modem and have noticed no decrease in speed. I too have high speed internet from cox, so i am not sure why you would have had a problem with that

All I'm saying is that it worked for me when nothing else did. I'm glad that you have no problems, but I was sharing my experience for those who are having problems and offering another solution.
