I'm running some tests on speedmatters.org on both the PS3 and my PC, both using the same router (WRT54G V8) and this is the results I get:
PS3 Download speed: 946kbps Upload speed: 3923kbps PC Download speed: 5486kbps Upload speed: 4323kbps The speed often varies, but the PS3 speed has never been close to 3000kbps whereas the PC speed has been over 9000kbps, the upload speed seems to be the same for both machines. Solutions I've tried: I have set the PS3 with a static IP and forwarded the following ports: 80, 443, 5223, 3478, 3479, 3658, 10070, 10080. I have tried enabling DMZ to the the static IP that I set for the PS3 I have tried changing the Transmission rate on the Advanced Wireless setting from Auto to 9Mbps and 6Mbps, nothing has provided satisfactory results, does anyone have any suggestions or are facing similar problems? The most curious thing is that the download speed is so different while the upload speed is very similar. |

its the router. I use to have the same router...but it would always lose signal/slow download. Not sure if its just a compatibility issue with certain devices...but switched it out with a different brand and blam. Fast connections.
have you updated the router firmware? Last edited by crackinhedz; 11-21-2008 at 12:52 AM. |

No, how do I do that? Which router did you get and suggest? I'm more than willing to buy a new router, because this is pissing me off, it takes forever to download any demo or game.

It's not, my download speed has always been slow, it's just that today I decided to try to do something about it.

in your webbrowser type in 192.168.1.1 type in your user name and password (normally set up when you first install the router) if not it will probably be something like admin and then admin again click on firmware and it will tell you what version you have. go to the manufacturer website and see if it is the latest one. If not download the new one and install. i have not configured anything other than opening the dmz port. Download speed is just as fast as the pc ![]() |

I've always had problems with my PS3 and my WRT54G. When I first got the PS3 I had an awful time trying to get the wireless even going at all, so I gave up and disconnected the ethernet from my PC, plugged it in the PS3 and set my PC for wireless. Even with an ethernet connection, my PS3 would CONSTANTLY throw out errors when I was streaming from my PC.
Then I got a Belkin N1 Vision. It was a dream to set up and even my PS3 set up easily, but I still got random errors when streaming (I get no such errors when streaming to either of my XBox's or my wireless dvd player.) Unfortunately the Belkin died about a month later, so I plugged my trusty old wrt54g back in. I did get my PS3 to set up wirelessly this time after having to manually enter all of my network settings, but it drops connection frequently. Everything else on my home network; my 360's, my wii, my desktop and laptop, my wireless dvd player, even my wireless printer, ALL get along fine with my wrt54g. It's just the PS3 that doesn't get along with it. Pretty weird since it's one of, if not THE most widely used routers around. |

******And if anyone knows where I can find the micro version of DD-WRT I'd be forever in your debt. I have a version 5 which is after Linksys shrunk the file size limit of what it will accept as firmware; so even the mini version doesn't work on mine***** Last edited by Uniquely; 11-21-2008 at 09:35 PM. |
