My 7 month old 52A650 quit working last night - will not come on, not even a pilot light to indicate that it is receiving power. Actually got Samsung support on the line at 11:30 Sunday night :-) Looks like power supply is bad. I'll know more when the repairman arrives.
Just thought other Samsung owners would interested. |

I avoided this TV because I heard it didn't quite make the cut in comparison to the 750. I avoided the 750 because I heard of the halo affect. In the end I bit the bullet and just paid the extra cash for the 850. I guess you get the reliability that you pay for, but I've heard many good reviews of the 650. Maybe you just had a bad set or one that was mistreated before you got it?

When I bought the 650, the 750 and 850s were not on the market. Well, I live in South Georgia, and Samsung says there are no warranty service centers in my area. They said they needed 48 business hours (6 work days) to locate someone to repair the set. All it needs is a power supply. I've spoken with them several times this week and today they said that since there was no service in my area, they were going to ship a new set to me. I told them I would not accept a refurbished set since mine is only 7 months old. They assured me that it would be a brand new set. I tried to get an upgrade in series (even offered to pay some difference) but since they still had some 650s in stock, I could not upgrade. Don't get me wrong, I love the 52A650 - just never hurts to do an upgrade. Samsung says it will be about two weeks before I have the new set. I've asked for expedited service - they said they would see what they could do.
I also mentioned that since mine has zero dead or stuck pixels, that I would not accept a replacement unless it was the same. |

Well, it took 3 weeks, but Samsung finally delivered my replacement set. Delivered OK with no bad pixels. Funny thing, while the delivery person was finishing paperwork, the set turned off just like in the early sets before the firmware fix. Only did it once, and so far tonight all is well. I thought I would check the firmware (set has a build date of Nov 2008). Firmware is 2008.9 - I checked Samsung's web site, and the latest listed is 2007.0. The swivel base is now the 'TOC' color and not black like my old set. The remote is different also, it now has a much improved rotating dial that is also the TOC color instead of the white as in the old remote. The new dial works better.

My LN52A650 (LN52A650A1FXZA) also had a similar issue today. I woke up and tried to power on the TV but it didn't come on. I tried pressing the power button directly on it but nothing, and no red power light near the bottom-right of the bezel.
I remembered I had a similar issue with an old Westinghouse 42 inch LCD, so I unplugged the power cord from the back of Samsung and waited about 20 minutes. I plugged it back in and I heard the "click" noise from when it normally turns on, but no power light and it still didn't work. I decided to unplug it another 10 minutes and wait. I re-inserted the power cord with some firm but careful pressure this time and ensured it was seated properly. Suddenly, the red power light started flashing! I pressed the power button and it came on! I'm not sure if the power cord I'm using is just not the right specific fit (it's a standard computer power supply cable which seemed to work), or if there's a power supply problem but now I'm afraid to turn it off lol. |

Just a stupid question...did you check the power cord at the back of the TV? I have the same TV and the cord has a very loose connection - even just brushing my hand by will sometimes disconnect it.

I just got a LN52A650 abut 2 weeks ago and had questions about the 120hz blurring and flickerring when the picture moves really fast. Thats my only complaint about the tv. I read only good about these TV's for the last year in a half. I hope we don't start having problems with them.

I had the same issue with the plug, but I managed to wedge some foam between it and the TV stand it is up on, and now it is nicely secure. But it was a real pain until I figured that out.
