Default Classic movies in Blu-ray

Hi,

I'm new to blu ray and was interested in finding if any older classic movies in color and, black and white are available in blu ray.

I would really be interested in some black and white movies from the 40's and 50's.

Does anyone know of where a list of movies of this type would be available.

I realize there may not be too many as cost considerations are involved concerning
the number of people who would purchase them.

Thanks

First off, welcome to the PARTY!!!!

Okay...so...not too too many classics out yet, but this site has an excellent movie catalog that you can search.

You'd be hard pressed to find a list of JUST black and white classics, but if you know the name of the movie then search it and I'm sure you can find something you like.

Casablanca is being released soon and that should be amazing.

If you don't mind pumping the era up a couple of decades, I'd love to recommend the Blu-ray versions of Viva Las Vegas and Patton.

Until then, have fun building your collection and enjoy,

Welcome to The BluWorldOrder!!!

Lucy,

Thanks, yeah there are a few recent classics I'm going to get like GoodFellas and L.A. Confidential, probably 2001 also.

I just love the old black and white movies, even ones I never heard of that come up Turner Classic.

One good B&W that is out on BD is Young Frankenstein, while it's a classic it's not Casablanca of course. If you know the titles you are looking for make a search, this sire database is very good for that.

Unfortunately, not a lot of classics (as in pre-70s) out yet. Some notable ones though are The Searchers, and in a couple weeks The Day The Earth Stood Still and Casablanca.

There are also rumblings (or announcements without dates) for the following titles for next year: The Ten Commandments, Sunset Boulevard, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Lawrence of Arabia, Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, and King Kong (33).

Take a look at Becket, coming out next week. I'm watching it right now, fine movie and solid transfer. Blu-ray.com review coming later.

The Adventures of Robin Hood is out; it's a classic but it's not B&W.

An American in Paris is also in color and is currently available as an import and should be coming Stateside by next Spring.

The Longest Day is in B&W. And very good. I did not notice the DNR that some complained about.

I also have this Blu movie. The Picture quailty is very good. Sharp and detailed. And it is an excellent movie with just about every male star of the era. Highly recommended.

I hope they release more classics. Movies, in my opinion, were just better in the golden age.

If you use our movie database search function you can limit your search for specific years. For example from 1888 to 1969 it shows results for about 5 dozen titles for the US (a few more if you include other countries in the search which have been reviewed here by Dr. Svet Atanasov)
