Manny of the games i bought at great expense are inferior to the PS2 earlier versions ,not only in terms of story line and game play but even in terms of graphics and small maps .
So tell us what games (u think ) are REALLY next gen ? unfortunately these are few . NEXT GEN. ---------- 1- UNCHARTED . 2- ASSASSINS CREED . 3- MGS4 . 4- COD4 . 5- HEAVENLY SWORD. 6- GT . 7- RESISTANCE . 8- LAIR . feel free to REVISE whenever needed ![]() |

KILLZONE 2
UNCHARTED GT5P MGS4 RESISTANCE 2 LAIR HEAVENLY SWORD ASSASSINS CREED In that order, from a technical standpoint. Actually, Lair COULD go above MGS4 (only from a TECHNICAL STANDPOINT). Lair has the most objects on screen...followed by Resistance 2 and Heavenly Sword. Lair has the highest polygon character models. Killzone 2 has the best lighting model followed by Uncharted (honorable mention for the ray-tracing in GT5P garage @Full 1080p). Killzone 2 and Uncharted tie in textures, but Killzone 2 is texturing more area. Killzone 2 has the best animations closely followed by Uncharted. MGS4 has the best character modeling. Getting sleepy...cutting this short here. ![]() |

As far as I'm concerned only those that are true 1080p. 720 equivalent resolution has been achievable on PC games for years and years, so I can't classify anything 720p as next gen.
Of the games I personally have, I'd only classify MGS4 |

to me next gen just means games that are on the next generation of consoles. so that means games developed for the wii, xbox 360, and the ps3. Last edited by plowmanjoe; 11-19-2008 at 08:43 AM. |

Killzone 2 is possibly the TRUE/BEST next gen game ever, haha
Uncharted MGS4 LittleBigPlanet R2 Heavenly Sword EDIT: I would also like to add Infamous, haha that game looks amazing. thats all I can really think of, these are the only games that I see that really amaze me and keep me playing my PS3, everything else comes close to being next gen but doesn't really get there. and no matter what anyone says I still don't believe the Wii is a next gen system, its still last gen. |

Yeah, you got that so right. SH2 had a wow factor, at the end of the intro cut scene. It took a bit of time to realise that you had control when looking in the mirror. It was so well done. It definitely felt like the next gen compared with SH1. I keep thinking of mirror intro every time in SH Homecoming when I look in a mirror and they give a pathetic blurred mess as they are too lazy to properly render the character's reflection. It doesn't wow me. And the clunky environments where you are bumping into stuff and it is moving and bouncing around and getting in the freaking way. It is a great game, but it doesn't feel like next gen. It doesn't even feel like it is superior to SH2. And yeah, the environment feels so much smaller. Even smaller than SH Origins on the PSP. |

Games like LittleBigPlanet would better fit into this category, thanks to the user created levels. That's a revolution, at least on consoles. Don't get me wrong, I really like the Wii concept with the new controller but it just doesn't work as well as it should. Maybe the new add-on will increase precision enough for it to become an outstanding controller. Time will tell. And for me improved graphics are also a very important part of the next-gen...so Wii is already disqualified in my eyes, with the exception of Super Mario Galaxy (aka U R MR GAY). So my list would be as follows: - LittleBigPlanet - Mirror's Edge - New TEAM ICO game will fit in here as well, that's a fact - Motorstorm - Call of Duty 4 - Bioshock - Gears of War - Uncharted - Ratchet Last edited by Sidewinder; 11-19-2008 at 01:43 PM. |

Okay im going to do something dangerous im going to list games by what they added that did not exist before, and perhaps no longer exists.
Heavenly Sword - After touch Conflict Denied ops - Advanced Bullet and denting marks MGS 4 - cinematic and game play innovation Uncharted - unpixelated and smooth shadows, shirt tucked in and not tucked in. Haze - Online, Split screen CO op, drop in drop out. Merc2 - Online co op drop in and drop out with vehicular combat. Bladestorm - Large epic free form battles with squad tactics. |

Considering gameplay, graphics, and presentation, Mirror's Edge would be the only game I consider Next Gen. All other games continue the same tradition of first person or third person gameplay. Mirror's Edge is actually trying to redefine it. It's a great experiment in gaming.

I think some of you guys need to go back and play a PS2 game. 95% of the stuff released now is "next-gen".
I was playing MGS 3 (one of the TOP games of Last Gen) the other day, graphics were horrible, gameplay was not that good (if this was released today, it would get SLAMMED), controls sucked. I thought, wow! when i played this first i thought it was the shiznit, but in retrospect, its not that good. and i love how 2 years into this gens life cycle (you could consider it 3 years), we still call THIS gen, next gen. Maybe when we see some NEXT gen footage we'll stop that. |

It will surprise you to know then, that MGS4 has a native resolution of 768p which is nowhere near 1080p.

Yes in some games I have spent hours examining the decals for bullet holes and examine if material specific bullet holes were used, very few games do that... |
