Dear Friends
If anyone can suggest. I recently bought Bose V 20 and a sony Blu ray disc player S-350. Now it is connected to the bose via HDMI, and the bose is connected with my Insignia TV via component video and a regular audio cable. If I play a DVD or a regular audio CD in blu ray disc player (which is connected with bose via HDMI) I don't hear any sound or see any picture. However if I use a component or optical cable to connect my sony blu ray with the bose I can see the picture and hear the sound as well. Where am I wrong, why does my HDMI not work. I will appreciate your response. Please e mail or post on the forum. rahat_230@hotmail.com Last edited by kfriend; 11-20-2008 at 04:38 AM. Reason: add email |

The best advice I can give is TAKE BACK the Bose system and use the $$ to buy a real AVR and a decent set of speakers. You will then be able to listen to HD audio, connections will be simple (HDMI only) and you'll have LOTS of $$ left over for BDs. Seriously consider this.

Does Bose even make an HDMI-capable system? I think they just do passthrough. Connect the HDMI directly to your set. Connect an optical cable to your Bose system.
Voila- lossy audio. Alternatively as has been suggested, return the Bose system and invest in a receiver such as the Onkyo 605 ($240 or so) or the Yamaha 663 ($299 or so). Then get a set of speakers like the Polk 6750 ($199) or Klipsch Synergy that Best Buy is selling (since you have an Insignia TV, you must have one near you) and you'll be able to enjoy lossless audio via HDMI. Your choice ultimately but if you decide to go the separates route you'll likely save money and get better sound. |

Normally I wouldn't start the Bose-bashing, but he he did state that he recently purchased everything, and it sounds like he just got things hooked-up. If that's the case, then he should pack it all back up now and return it for some quality gear. Even if you only get store credit, you'll be able to put together a system that will be SO much better than the Bose. Many folks around here will be more than happy to give you a shopping list.

SUBJECTIVELY, I'd agree with you. Let's just let the OP decide what route he wants to take at this point. Good points were brought up.. 1) His system is incapable of the new Codecs 2) He could keep the speakers and get an AVR capable of the Codecs 3) he "may" be able to return it, and go an entirely different route. His choice now ![]() |
