I purchased an Onkyo 606 receiver about 6 months ago and have not any problems until recently.....
In case it makes any difference here's my setup Onkyo 606 Receiver Toshiba 40" LCD TV (HDMI via receiver output) KEF 2001.2 Speakers (6.1) PS3 (HDMI for Audio and Video) SKY HD (HDMI for Audio and Video) About a week ago I was burgled and the intruder had disconnected my television and ripped it from it's stand before being disturbed by my wife. He fled and left with nothing (apart from a PS3 controller). After re-connecting the TV all seemed well.... However, the next day the ONKYO went into protection mode(PM) after some use. The only way I could exit PM was to power off the onkyo for a short period of time. It was then after many hours of use when the Onkyo repeated the PM error and then I had to power off again. The next time in entered PM, removing the power did not clear the error. I therefore decided to troubleshoot the problem but since the issue is so intermittent, I'm not sure what testing I have done proved anything. I disconnected all HDMI connections and used the inbuilt radio as input, PM problem still exists. disconnected all speakers and tested each speaker to be working on the centre channel. All speakers were fully functional. I then connected speakers to each channel individually. Funny thing was that when I connected speakers to the Front Left channel, the Onkyo went into PM. This was repeated several times with many different cables and speakers. It became impossible to recover from this situation all other channels worked fine. I then decided to factory reset the Onkyo. All speaker channels worked fine and slowly reuild the connectivity and configuration with no issues. All seemed when and then after 15 mins of running (at very low volume) the Onkyo returned to PM. It was possible to recover from this by turning the Onkyo back on. Then PM returned an hour later...switch on again and now running OK. It's been running for about 3 hours now with no problem however, I'm waiting for the PM problem to return. Any pointers please...... |
