Default Onkyo standby mode

Onkyo owners, do you leave your AVR in standby? I am asking because I have a 605 and when it is in standby, it still gives off a good amount of heat. To fix this, I have it plugged into a switch outlet on my power center. When I press the switch button on my power center, it shuts down my Onkyo all the way. The problem with this is that I have to get down there to turn on and off the switch all the time. This kind of defeats some of the purpose of my new Harmony 720 remote.

also, everytime you completely shut on and off, you create a power surge
standby is your friend, maintains constant temp, and no inrush current

Thanks, I did not know that. So, am I not really saving any power/energy by using the switch to power the Onkyo down completely?

This gives a bit more background of my situation: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=81105

It does save power... but
did you ever notice that a light bulb goes bad
when you first turn it on ??? not while it is burning ??

the temp going up and down causes the components to enlarge / shrink
on a minute basis, but it can cause problems on a marginal device
that is why I/C's are tested over a temp range

Does it make a difference if I (a) leave the Onkyo on the switch outlet and keep the switch always on or (b) plug the Onkyo into a non-switch outlet of the power center? (hope that made sense)

Is your 605 encolsed in a small space? I have the 805 that stays VERY cool in standby mode. However, it is also completely exposed to the room on the top shelf of my stand.
