Default bd/reciever?

hey guys i have a samsung bd-up5000 and a marantz sr40001 av receiver and have hdmi from bd to receiver and receiver to lcd tv. it was recommended to use the pcm setting on the bd player vs. bit-stream audiophile also has bit-stream re-encode. tonight i went to watch the hancock bd and the sound effects would play fine but the talking didn't work so i switched it back to bit-stream and it worked fine. anybody have any input on this?

That does seem strange...Hancock is Dolby TruHD, which the player should have decoded without a problem, and sent to the reciever via PCM. It appears you lost the center channel dialogue.

Have you done any updates to the player lately?

sounds like either your player is forcing 2.0 PCM, do you have any "downmix PCM" turned on?

or, your receiver has a setting incorrectly somewhere. HDMI Audio = Enable (not "Through")

looking at the user manual pg. 10 footnote:

Quote:
*When playing a Dolby TrueHD disc, audio will only be heard over the front left and right speakers.

sorry man. I think youre limited to 2.0 TrueHD.

Bitstream will send the lossy 5.1 "core"

Just set to Bitstream and enjoy! You can still utilize 'Uncompressed PCM' audio tracks.
