Default Rumor: PlayStation Home Funds Determined By Earned Trophies?

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/4188.html

Quote:
If this is true, we want to know what evil genius concocted this particular system. Not only will it coerce us into playing games more, but it will make us become more active PlayStation Home users... Evil genius, we say!

But this rumor is hardly confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt and consider for yourself whether it'd be a good idea. Many of you probably have questions about how the money system in Home will work; how to actually get the money is the key determining factor, of course. You'll want to buy new threads for your avatar and new decorations for your pad, right? Well, there will probably be a number of different ways of obtaining funds, but the latest rumor says you will receive these funds based on the Trophies you've collected. Supposedly, three developers took questions from an assembled crowd in the closed beta, and in answer to one question, they replied:

"The release date for home is Dec. 15th or the 30th...they said it is definite. There will be random weather, there will be a money system. you earn money from collecting trophies. and you will get money for the trophies you already have."

Oh, that's tricky. The weather idea is probably both feasible and legitimate, and they also said something about the open beta being restricted to those 18 years of age or older, due to swearing censorship getting turned off. But this idea of earning money by earning Trophies is one that has gotten people talking, and we're still trying to decide if we like this process. Some Home users have already denounced this whole thing as a fake to begin with, though, so perhaps we won't have to think on it too long...
alright max..get your butt in here and comment

Not heard about the weather stuff. Sounds pointless really...

Trophy stuff, well I have mentioned this in the past as an idea being kicked around the office, not sure whether I did it here or in an e-mail to someone.

Dec 15th sounds right, the load testing didn't go as well as they had hoped in Europe on the first try, so it has been delayed to beef up the servers.

i hope they don't mean rain and snow and stuff, i don't want to see that.

but i think you've mentioned something about trophies similar to this, just more vague about it. but basically we can expect to earn "money" from trophies to spend in home, rather than spend actual money?

If it does come about expect it to be both. Real money is always going to be an option for those who can't be bothered with trophies.

I think the major part of trophies will be access to exclusive areas for those people with level xx or above, like a special room at GDC which gives exclusive trailers or behind the scenes footage and that kind of stuff. Real money won't buy that...

I'm not sure about this system. So far, I've got only 2 games that utilise trophies (Warhawk and WipEout HD), and its hard enough just to get the gold trophies in both of them. I'd rather have the funds added via credit or PSN card (or in my case, a 3V voucher).

right thats what i meant, both options. i'd much rather try harder for trophies then spend my own money. but i like the idea of level xx people being able to access exclusive areas

i seriously was thinking they might/should do something like that. it only makes sense because it provides incentives to play more ps3 games.

And I've heard that when home will arrive, our trophies will be reset so we will have to earn them back again in order to have our goodies...

I am very pro-this rumor. Very.

Cause I will not spend a dime otherwise in Home.

I think I'm 1% away from level 8 on trophies so I might do okay with this system.

Not sure Home will ever come out though.

Not a huge fan of trophies, but this is a great idea if they go with it. It will give those people who are more hardcore then I am a lot more incentive to buy more games they normally wouldn't play, and to play them to 100%. It is an all around win/win for everybody. Hell, it'd give me more incentive to actually play for trophies. Right now there's very little tangible gain in them for me.

I like this idea, I also hope you can get some thing related to the game for platinum trophy. Like a naughty dog shirt for Uncharted.

Wow - great idea. (Sony gets sooooo many great ideas for free from these types of forums - I hope they're paying attention.)

Anyway, I think HOME is a bust from what I've seen - although, if they had "trophy money", I'd probably be more likely to log into HOME to see what it got me. In other words, this is a good marketing idea.

I think its a great idea!

I assume the best players, or those with the most trophies will have the best HOME spaces and gear inside their Home space.

Well sounds like a great idea! Hope its true!
