You will get lots of suggesdtions on which is the best player. I personally would tell you from expeirence to go wiht the PS3, it's still ht fastest player, now some wil tell you that the newer standalones are geting fast but the PS3 is still slightly faster then them. However they aso say that the standlaones namely the newest ones have better PQ. However the PS3 NEVER haws problems loading disc's at all. And I do mean NEVER. They also have more firmware updates then any other machine out yet. SO I'd push for the PS3 yes I have one and yes I've had a standalone before. Wish I would have bought thew PS3 sooner. Good luck though. You'll get lots of idea's in here.

you could stream from your PC wirelessly to a PS3.

I have a PS3 and a Sony S350. No real difference except PS3 is faster and has more features.

but if you wouldn't stream media or play games, the S350 is just fine.

The software support is lackluster (unless you want to pay a premium) for bd computer drives from what I have read/heard. That is one of the reasons I opted for the stand alone; after researching it a bit I settled on the Panasonic DMP-BD35k but if there are no sales by the new year or the price doesn't drop below $200 for a non-sale sale I might just jump on the S350 bandwagon when it goes on deep discount sale again around there.

I would go with the Blu-ray drive if you already have a PS3.

Well then, it's all really up to your budget. You need to decide if you want to get into the costs of a separate system of AV receiver, blu player, and speakers. Or do you go with the all-in-one Panasonic system that you mentioned (I assume this is the one you are talking about?) I can see a couple of drawbacks to the HTIB idea already. Firstly, the speakers are wireless. Meaning that upgrading down the road would be difficult, if not impossible. The power output looks impressive, but reading the nominal output, it's a little less impressive overall. Going with separates allows you to swap out componants as your desires change, but the drawback there is it can be more expensive (and a little confusing at times). So the real question is this.........

How deep down the rabbit hole do you want to go?

Is it just me or does this guys question relate to not a standalone but an actual blu-ray drive.. meaning a drive that goes inside your computer...

like this:

I'm not sure about the performance on these would probably depend on your computer specs.. would be nice to be able to burn Blu-rays though.
