i have a 19" TV and it has only componant connection. When i get a PS3, can i still watch a good quality picture? Or do i need to get a HDMI TV?
the TV has a res of 1440x900. If i set the ps3 at 1080i, will it downscale to 720p? Because if i was to set it at 720p, it will downscale to 480i/p from what i hear. Last edited by billymcmoy; 04-02-2007 at 09:16 PM. Reason: not enough infomation |

That depends on your TV type. What is the screen resolution? If you use component on 720p it will look fine, same with 576i (edtv). But if your trying to watch 1080i you might have a small loss in quality. But if your TV isn't hd or ed, it won't make much of a difference. If you are planning to puchase a TV, then I would reccomend one that has an HDMI connection for the best picture quality.

I had my ps3 hooked to a 19" standard tv. It worked. You have to make sure the settings are set prior to hooking it up to that tv, or if brand new, should work out of the box. I played games and watched movies. It down converts all HD content to 480i/p whichever your tv can handle.
On a side note: Hurry up and get HD, cause your not realizing the true potential of that system down converting like that! |

Yea....I had a 65" Mitsubishi, the old rear projection before DLP days, and I moved from Michigan to California and didn't want to move with it. Too heavy and out of date. The TV displayed 1080i, but not 720p....still trying to figure that one out!
So i sold it and upgraded, but I had to suffice with a little 19" in between TV's....so that's the story of that! |

This is kind of off topic but, If you happen to bring your ps3 to hook up to another style TV and forget to change the video output. You can just hold you finger on the power button when you turn it on and it will scan through the different video formats till you get a picture.

its the person who asked the question:
the TV has a res of 1440x900. If i set the PS3 to 1080i, will it downscale it to 720p? Cause i think that is i set it to 720p, it will downscale to 480i/p. |
