Default Arnold getting no love?

I was just posting on anothe thread regarding DVD and if I still buy them. I currently own two Blu Rays that have dissapointed me. They are Terminator 2 and Total Recall.

It seems that other Blu releases for Arnold aren't that great either. Predator and Commando being classic films that deserve higher quality.

I own Blade Runner and it was made before all of Arnold's top films. The PQ/AQ on that blu in my opinion is top notch. It is the reason people should upgrade to blu in the first place. Why can't Arnold films(actually a ton of films) get the same treatment?!

The question is... Is there an Arnold film released on Blu that has near flawless PQ/AQ?

The Commando DVD quality (at least my version) was very poor, and I think the Blu-ray is a marked improvement.... could it be better???? SURE....

Just like DVD, expect a LOT of Terminator versions to be released.

Well, T3 looks and sounds great, but the audio is lossy.
I've heard quite good things about The 6th Day and End of Days as well, and Eraser shouldn't be too shabby either.
The first Terminator I've yet to see either, but should apparently look quite good.
But as the previous poster said, there'll probably be A LOT of double dips in the future, just hang in there!

Yeah, and I've noticed that Arnold's movies tend to get stripped of their special features when released on blu-ray as well. Hell, Commando was just recently upgraded on DVD with a new cut and new features. AFAIK, nothing from that release made it to the blu-ray. It certainly has me scratching my head. The stripped down, bare bones Total Recall blu broke my heart as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if T2 gets a re-release before Terminator: Salvation hits theatres this summer. If so, I hope they use the German HD DVD transfer which was far better than the blu-rays available.

I don't think T2 and Total Recall look terrible, but I'd have to believe we'll see a new T2 release with a better transfer, lossless audio, and extended version this summer.

Well... I think Terminator 2 is slightly below average on PQ. I would give it a 2.5/5. I think it is better than the DVD but just barely. There is no depth or clarity like there should be. I should be able to tell that it is 1991 CGI being used.

Total Recall is just complete garbage for PQ. I was watching it a few weeks ago and a buddy came by and he didn't have a clue it was blu-ray. We put in Troy right after and it really showed what problems TR has.

It's sad.

I'm definately going to be holding on for future editions of Arnie films that will likely be improved upon (if possible). I'm hoping the sound during the original Terminator is the original mono too for the Terminator vision shots

The HD DVD imports of T2 and Total Recall are quite good, so there is hope for better Blu-ray releases.

Since I already own those, what I'd really like to see is a high quality version of True Lies. I never got the DVD since it wasn't anamorphic.

The Blu is WORLDS better, yes.

Predator is never going to look better, TS isn't taking into account different film stocks, etc. You can't make Commando or Predator look like Blade Runner.

That said, a lot of Arnie's films do have the potential to look great when eventually released. True Lies, anyone?

Does his cameo in The Rundown count? The HD DVD looks great, and the BD should be awesome with lossless audio...

I would agree with a 2.5/5, but not every movie can look like Troy. The source material for Troy is going to be in far different/better condition than movies like T2 and Total Recall. I agree they don't look great and shouldn't be used for reference material, but I'm not sure how much better they will be short of a major restoration which I doubt they will spend the money on especially in these economic times. I believe T2 was shot on Super 35 which can pose issues of its own. Even the HD DVD transfer for T2 that was mentioned was just barely better than the BD version. There were a lot of screenshot comparisons over at AVS. However, I'm still hoping for some kind of improvement.

I am curious. What makes Blade Runner an exception? 2001 is another film that has spectacular PQ.

How can these films that are older look so much better?

The amount of work that went into Blade Runner is incredible. Out of the 5 cuts present in the set, 'The Final Cut' has the best PQ, but I haven't had the time to watch it yet. I literally just watched the workprint last night and it is obviously the worst looking, just interesting to see a work in progress. I also have 2001, but still haven't had the time to watch it yet. Only glanced at a few scenes briefly and was surprised considering it is 40 years old now.

All I care about right now is True Lies and a double dip of T2 with perfect picture, sound and being extended

I'm not a huge Ahhhnold fan. I never could get into the Termanitor movies. The only film I love of his is Predator. I'd love to see a better PQ version come out.

I don't think the blu-ray of Commando is that much better than the standard def DVD (as has been pointed out on AVS forum) and it all boils down to the restoration process. If you get a chance, look at what they were able to do with the 46 year old James Bond "Dr. No". They should use the same care for all older movies.
