Default Arnold Movies In MPEG-2

All Arnold Schwarzenegger Blu-rays are in primitive MPEG-2... why? These are prime movies to show off the format so why half-ass them?

I take it you are talking about Preadator and Commando. These two movies were pressed back when FOX was still messing around with MPEG-2.

"Total Recall", "Terminator" and "Terminator 2" are also MPEG-2.

...and Terminator is definitely not very good on Blu. I wonder if it's even better than DVD; I sure as heck hope so or else I just wasted some money.

I haven't seen T2 yet on Blu, but I plan on getting to it sometime this week (I've got all three on Blu).

These were all released back when the studios were using MPEG-2 more than AVC. Now all studios except for WB/NL use AVC as it is still being upgraded and enhanced whereas MPEG-2 they stopped development on. WB/NL use VC-1 and Universal sometimes uses VC-1 as well. You should no longer see a MPEG-2 release unless it was a title done a long time ago that got pulled from release and is just now being brought to retail.

Those were among the first round of when most of the studios were so hell bent on MPEG2, BD25 and double dipping more then ever for blu-ray.

Either wait or you can pick up Terminator 2 and Total Recall outside of US.

How is the UK version of "Total Recall"?

Also where is "True Lies" on Blu-ray?

I know many early Blu-rays were done in MPEG-2 (still not an excuse), but Fox screwed us with "Commando" and "Predator", both were released less than a year ago.

I compared a few scenes from T2 Ultimate Edition and T2 Blu-ray(US).

The main thing to say is that the blu-ray is better in sound and visual quality. The problem is that it doesn't knock it out of the park like other releases.

I got mine for free but if you see it for $9.99 and can't wait for the newer release then I think it is an ok buy.

Pretty sure they were done a while back and then put on hold due to BD+...

The 6th Day is encoded in AVC on a BD-50 with a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track.

End of Days was also encoded in AVC and has a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track.

Both are in fact an Arnold Schwarzenegger movies.

Good call... but it's unfortunate it had to be his two worst movies on Blu-ray.

Gahhh!!!, people, Predator was a fantastic transfer. Look at the source elements for Predator, that movie looked like crap on any format. It was shot with ultra crappy cheap stock and was double zoomed many times on many shots. A higher bitrate encode MIGHT have given a SLIGHTLY better picture, but nothing can polish a turd when the source material is said turd.
Collateral damage is coming out next month with a VC-1 encode with TrueHD from Warner though so we'll see how they do with that.

Total recall in the UK was a studio canal release and used VC1 for video and came with DTS-HD 5.1 MA sound. It looked far better then the US releases.

True Lies still waiting to see if that turns up. Universal in the UK owns the rights to True Lies. As for FOX in the US they region code so I have to wait on universal now. For now I have to watch my 16x9 DVD release of true lies.

When Fox announces a title early, then delays it and releases it much later, they seem to have it all ready to go right up to the moment they pull the plug. Result: they don't bother reencoding it later to match up to current standards. This has happened a few times, with Schwarzenegger movies and others.
