Default Blind Buys (ones that you liked and disliked)?

I'm sure this thread has been made before but I'm making another one heh.

I usually don't do too many blind buys. I usually only do blind buys when I happen to see them on sale and have heard good reviews by them.

Blind Buys I Liked:

Bridge to Terabithia - I think I got this during a Toys R Us Buy 2 Get 1 free promo. Never having watched it, I thought it was too kiddy for me. But I picked it up anyway because it had good reviews and there was nothing else appealing on the shelf. This movie totally surprised me. I thought this movie was more like the Narnia fantasy movies. But instead it was more of a human character and life piece.

3:10 to Yuma - I never paid attention to this movie because I am not a fan of the Western genre. I picked it up during a Target sale. I watched it and absolutely loved it. The acting was superb and I liked how deep and fleshed out the main characters were.

Gattaca - I'm surprised I never saw this movie before. It was a very good movie. I'm not really a sci-fi guy (as you can see from below) but I really enjoyed this movie. I guess I'm the type of guy that enjoys a hypothetical movie that makes you think more about life.

Stranger Than Fiction - I think Will Ferrell is ok but I never really paid attention to his comedies. Even though this one is not really a comedy, I thought the movie was great. Just like Gattaca, there are some life messages in the movie too.

Blind Buys I Disliked:

Run Lola Run - This had good reviews. So I bought it on a whim when I saw it for 15 bucks. I did not liked it at all. I was really bored and got sick of seeing the main character run and do repeat scenes.

Blade Runner - Heh am I bad for listing this one? I know a lot of people love this movie but for some reason I could never get into it. I guess I'm not much of a sci-fi guy.

Dark City - Same thing as Blade Runner. It was interesting but not captivating. I enjoyed it better than Blade Runner though.

So what movies have pleasantly surprised you as a blind buy? Which ones have disappointed you?

I don't believe in blind buying but some of my friends were raving about Dark City so I almost blind bought that. Decided to rent it first and boy was I glad I did. The movie wasn't bad but it was only a 1 time deal for me.

Doomsday was a great blind buy!

I still don't understand the plot much but it's a lot of fun and looks and sounds great

Blind Buys I Liked:

Enchanted - It was a fun, cute movie. It'll have to tide me over as the best romantic comedy on Blu-Ray until The Princess Bride gets released.

The Golden Compass - Despite hearing so many negative comments, I really enjoyed this movie. I'm just saddened that there's little chance the next two books will make it into film adaptations.

The Incredible Hulk - I actually never got around to seeing this in the theaters but I thoroughly enjoyed it when it arrived. Plus, even the lowly DTS core my receiver can handle sounds pretty awesome.

Wall-E - Another movie I missed in the theaters. This was a great movie, especially considering that the dialog for about the first hour consisted of 3 words: "Wall-E," "Eve," and "Directive."

Blind Buy I Didn't Like:

300 - With the massive sales and hype this film got, I expected it to be a lot better than what I saw. It was okay, but I've watched it once and don't feel an urge to watch it again anytime soon.

AvP: Requiem - Sometimes the critics are right about a movie. This movie was pure crap from start to end, recycles plot elements from previous Aliens and Predators movies, throws in some generic characters and calls it a day.

Lost Season 3 - I had watched Season 1 when it aired and didn't understand all the hype. I decided to give it another shot when Amazon had this on sale. Needless to say, I still don't understand why this show has such a following.

It's a convoluted mess - but it's a fun ride from beginning to end.

I was somewhat disappointed by the following blind buys:

The Fountain
Ruins
Memento
Sunshine
Big Hit
Semi Pro
Daddy Day Camp
Golden Compass
Spiderwick Chronicles

But I was BLOWN AWAY by these:

Apocalypto
Pans Labyrinth
Big Fish
3:10 to Yuma
Journey To The Center of The Earth
Incredible Hulk (newest one)
Seven Years in Tibet
Forbidden Kingdom
Last Samurai
Bad Santa
Identity
Ku Fu Panda
Mist
Mr. Woodcock (I am NOT kidding)
The Brave One
Cloverfield

I will continue to bind buy. I guess I am just an adventurous person.

Pretty much agree with your selections (likes) Comet with the exclusion of Golden Compass. Blu Titan liked that one.

Hmmm I never seen Pan's Labyrinth. I heard a lot of great reviews about this one too. I've been tempted to buy this for the right price.

Blu Titan - I saw you mentioned Run Lola Run as one of your good blind buys. Just curious why did you liked it? For some reason, I couldn't get into the movie. The first run through was pretty interesting but I got bored of it after so many repeats.

Interesting to see Sunshine made the list for several posters as disappointed blind buys. I suppose I can skip this one then lol.

Oh yeah I thought of another disappointed blind buy. Well technically I did not buy it but rather rented it. I was really hyped about watching The Prestige. The trailer was great. Reviews were great. All this talk about a twisted ending was great. I really liked most of the movie but the end kinda killed it for me. The twist was good. But the ending was kinda too far fetched to me and ruined the movie for me. Kinda reminded me of how I felt when I watched the latest Indiana Jones with the over the top unrealistic ending.

Sunshine was a blind buy for me, and I really enjoyed it. It's actually toward the top of our most watch BD's out of ~60 (along with I Am Legend and Planet Earth). Probably seen it 4 times in less than a year.

The movie was even better after having listened to their scientific expert's (some guy that works at CERN) commentary track. Lots of good insight, and it's cool to hear that almost everything in the film is scientifically accurate.

Blind buys I liked:
Roving Mars- I read the book version of this IMAX film and enjoyed it, so it was cool to see the rovers in action as well as the people behind the project that were mentioned in the book.

2001: A Space Odyssey- This film is legendary in the sci-fi genre, and it did not dissapoint.

Ratatouille- I could not believe how good this looked. One of Pixar's finest movies.

Wall-E- Another masterpiece from Pixar. My friends told me how awesome this movie was so I immediately bought the Blu-ray to watch since I missed it in theaters. I can't wait to dig into the features.

Blind buys I didn't like:
Space Cowboys- I normally like movies about space travel, but most of the characters in this one weren't very likable, and I just didn't like it overall.

Good blind buys:
Sunshine
Chronicles of Narnia
Blade Runner
The Thing

Bad Ones:
Justice League: New Frontier
Batman: Gotham Knight

I usually don't blind buy films because Blus are expensive and I don't have enough cash but luckily most I do Blind Buy have worked out.

Wall-E has great features. Two 1080 animated features (one borrows heavily from the movie but it's still fun) on the movie disk. Haven't checked the bonus one yet =].
