Default 7.1 analog outputs and 6 channel direct--need help please

I am about to purchase a blu-ray player for my home theater. I have an older Harman Kardon receiver with "6 channel direct" inputs that accept 6 individual RCA cables.

Will this 6 channel direct work with the 7.1 analog outputs from a blu-ray player (I know I won't be able to use 2 of the channels)?

Players with 7.1 analog outputs are running about $100 more, is it worth getting this or should I just go with the optical audio?

THANKS!!

Go with a player like the Panasonic BDP 55K or the Sony BDPS550 that decode HD audio codecs internally and use Linear PCM to your receiver.

What output connection would I use from the player? Optical?

I should have mentioned, my receiver does not have HDMI inputs. Only optical, component, 6 channel analog, and 2 channel analog

You need a player that internally decodes and has at least 6 channel analog out. You should look at the Sony-S550 or the BDP 55K. You will use analog out.
