What gives members these titles?

Post counts. And that's it. Personally, I wish they'd change the titles as they're misleading to new members.

Is there something that says how many posts equal what status?

also I think they just recently changed me from member to active member.

click on the name of the user, view profile...and you can see how many posts someone has

Heres something that'll help you on how many posts a member has:

New member: 0 - 2 posts
Junior member 3 - 19 posts
Member: 20 - 99 posts
Active member: 100 - 199 posts
Senior member: 200 - 399 posts
Power member: 400 - 699 posts
Expert member: 700 - 999 posts
Special member: 1,000 - 1,999 posts
Blu ray guru: 2,000 - 4,999 posts
Blu ray king: Over 5,000 posts

Just don't start so soon.
