Question Sony BDP-S350 HDMI Resolution Question

Hey, guys. This has GOT to be something simple...

Sony Bravia KDL-46Z4100 and BDP-S350 with nothing but HDMI between the two. Recognized the BD-ROM fine and picture looks great at 1080p. The HDMI control even works to power the device on and off.

The problem is that when a movie plays in 1080p/24p, the image is letter-boxed. Same result with a few discs. The interesting thing is that all introductory stuff (pirating notice, menus, previews, etc.) is full screen 1080p.

I've wandered through the settings ad nauseum with full resets and the like. Checked cables and everything seems to be in order. What would make a 1080p disc be letter boxed on the HDTV?

TIA.
