Default Sony had a strong Black Friday!

Good news from Twice.com:

Execs: Sony Had Strong Black Friday
By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 12/3/2008 1:08:00 PM
San Diego — Sony reported strong sell-through on its dedicated Blu-ray players and Bravia LCD TVs over the Black Friday sales weekend.

Chris Fawcett, Sony home audio and video product marketing VP, said, “Black Friday sales exceeded our expectations at nearly every retail location and online as well. In fact, one survey even ranked the Sony BDP-S350 in the Top 3 of the most popular items sold online on Black Friday … this included all products, not just consumer electronics.”

Regarding Bravia TVs, Jeff Goldstein, Sony television marketing VP, said, “The sell-through of Sony Bravia LCD TVs exceeded our expectations for the Black Friday weekend. Our promotions worked well, and we saw good lift on key models.”

This is great news for Sony! Also I don't doubt it one bit as I bought a Sony BDP-S350 for my father-in-law, lol.

Yup, I picked one up Saturday for $225 at Circuit City. Felt like Christmas and I was a kid again lol. Great player...HUGE difference in picture quality from standard DVD. I watch movies every night now!!! I love Sony!! Next comes the AV receiver....I still have my Yamaha system from 20 years ago...

Im curious about the actual numbers. Hopefully the black friday/xmas standalone player sales will really boost blu-ray into the new year.

If you like the improved picture, wait until you get a chance to listen to lossless audio. It's equally as impressive if you have a good audio setup.

That's what I'm hoping for too, multiple standalone players will hopefully be sold this holiday further solidifying blu-ray as a format.

The prices aren't really that bad, I remember one of my first DVD standalones was $299. It's only a matter of time till we see lower blu-ray prices for standalone players.

Well, even Mike HD The Pirate of the Format Wars bought himself a Sony S350 on Black Friday, and is looking foward to enjoying it. It goes to show that real movie lovers will adopt the format even if they were hardcore HD DVD supporters in the past.

I'd like to see the results after all the returns

I've seen several people returning BD players over the course of the week in my travels...

Right on there Titan

One of my friends was an avid DUD supporter, Now however he cashed it all in and decked out his home theater all shiny Blu!

He hasn't looked back

I'm grateful they had a good black friday since it allowed them to come up with the deal where you get their sonystyle card, buy a PS 3 for 399 plus tax, and they refund you on the card 150 dollars. I went through hell trying to decide if I should buy a stand alone blu ray player or a PS 3. At 399 I had already bought the Panny 35k, and had it in my HT. Then, I saw this deal on blu ray, thanks guys and gals, and I'm returning my panny and getting the PS 3 for 250 bucks.

Go sony for deals like that.

It's great news, but I wasn't surprised.

The Sony BDP S350, S550, and PS3 rule.

Damn, now that is pretty funny that he held out so long.
Who does that leave now? Lee Stewart, Robin Harris and Rob Enderle?

Lee Stewart is still firmly anti-Blu and p!ssing in every pool that hasn't banned him.

Went out to help my Mother-in-law get the S350 at Kmart - all gone by 10 Thanksgiving day - luckily Walmart did the PM - so 179 + tax.

I think Sony or Kmart should have doubled or tripled the supply as that Kmart (Rt 10 in Morris County NJ) said they sold all 6 S350s in 5 minutes of opening.
