$1,000! Great budget, great budget. No HTiBs here!

First!

Receiver!

Onkyo 606 or Sony STR-DG820: $350

5.0 Speakers!

Fluance AV-HT: $200 (5.0 - complete wonderful set, Big Daddy recommends em)
Polk RM- Series: $250 (Complete 5.1 - but small satellites)

(L/R/C) Polk Monitor 50 + CS1: $400

Subwoofer!

None other than the beautiful bass behemoth of the eD A2-300 @ $350.

Whats your room size? Apartment/house? Any particular preference for towers/bookies/satellites?

Try to build a solid front three, subwoofer, and receiver; and leave the surrounds for last. Heck, if it was me, I'd get a Paradigm Monitor line across the front three and leave the receiver for later...planning on any upgrading in the future?

Fluance: http://www.fluance.com/fluanceavhtb.html
eD Sub: http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...roducts_id=407

lol - No big boxes? The wife, the girlfriend getting in their two cents? The Fluance and eD are as aesthetically challenged as they get, but there is no better sound for the money than those two. Do you really want to compromise because of AESTHETICS?!?!

Satellites and Bookies it is, with some cute little sub, too!

Oye, for $1,000; you're gonna get boxes. Just like the Buffalo offense does because Edwards is scared to throw deep,

for speakers you could try the Klipsch cinema 6 or cinema 8 packages (if you can find them on sale... they're on at my work for $399 and $699 respectively, without a sub, and i'm sure theres an online price that can beat that)

they're nice and small, wall or roof mountable satellites that can also sit neatly on a shelf or stand

Tell you what, you buy the Fluance speaker set and then go to your local Circuit City or Best Buy and get the Monitor 60's just to see how it compares. You can get the Monitor 60's significantly cheaper online than in stores but in stores, you can bring it home to see how you like it, return it, and buy them cheaper online. Unless you like the Fluance system more which is totally possible. I want to get an idea of what they even sound like.
