Default Problem with Dolby TruHD

As more and more BDs are coming out with Dolby TruHD I am encountering a problem with audio. Some TruHD movies (Indiana Jones Crystal Skull for example) are playing along fine then there is a sort of hiccup or glitch in the soundtrack. If I rewind and replay that section it isn't there, so I know the problem is not in the disc. It happens only two to four times in the movie but it is jarring and now I'm kinda dreading it when I watch a movie with TruHD. There is no accompanying video glitch - the picture runs smoothly. This makes me think it must be in the audio decoding in the Onkyo. I am bitstreaming the audio from my player for the Onkyo to decode. I never have this problem with PCM soundtracks or DTS HDMA, let alone old Dolby 5.1.

This receiver has one firmware update that I know of - I did it a few months back to get rid of the DTS bomb (and it worked).

It is happening in about half the Dolby TruHD movies I watch, but seems to be coming up more often in movies that have just been released. Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have any ideas what is up?

I'm not familiar with the Phillips player - but does it have the option of sending everything out via PCM? If it can decode TruHD, at least you can find out if it's the receiver.

No, the Philips does not decode Dolby TruHD. I figure if it is just bitstreaming it via HDMI it is probably not the player's fault - I think...

Try using a cleaning disk? Maybe there is something about the laser reading DD True HD codec? Strange...

did you make sure you went into the movie audio setup and selected dd thd?? I know it sounds stupid, but not all movies automatically select the hd audio, some are default to core dd 5.1

Interesting point - as I think all the truHD movies with problems were rentals. I'll hold off on the cleaning disc until I get a movie that has the problem - then clean it - and see what happens.

I've made some idiot mistakes in my year of home theatre madness but that isn't one of them! I make sure that TruHD shows up on my Onkyo display. Thanks for the suggest though.

Okay, played Hancock last night - rental. Checked out the disc first - cleaned off the fingerprints and some crud on it - and it played fine. If this is the solution to the problem, great - I guess it's possible that the truHD discs I rented just happened to be dirtier than the DTS HD discs...

As there are lots of Onkyo 605 owners out there and no one else has chimed in with this problem, it is probably something really stupid like this.
