Is that normal? I heard that sony says it is.

most likely means you have a weak hdmi signal...either the cable is too long, the cable is loose or the cable is just bad.

ahhh I found an firmware update that fixes that!!

cool. So it was an actual Display problem?

...I think I do recall someone mentioning that in the past. But I don't get too much into Sony LCD issues...glad you found a fix.
