Default Question about PS3 and Green Sparkles.

Every once in awhile my PS3 will have green sparkles on the screen. I'm not quite sure what it is. Whenever the resolution is in 1080p I'm ok, but sometimes in 720p and in 1080i there are sometimes the sparkles...also in 1080i it seems as though the picture is having seizures. I just never use the 1080i only 720p and 1080p. Does anyone know what this might be?

A 42" Vizio LCD...the model before the Full 1080p model. I'm not sure why the input reads 1080p cause I know it doesn't do Full HD, but it plays best when it's in that input. Oh yeah and no drugs are involved...hahaha.

I have experienced this a few times with Blu-Ray and dvd so I know what you mean. I did a search for it but never found out an answer why it does it. I do know that if I just restart the PS3 it goes away.

I'm running it at 1080i and never seen that. Sure, sometimes before a BD starts or a game loads up, it'll quickly pop to snow and back a couple of times but I've never seen that happen in the middle of a game or film. It sounds like it just might be the length of HDMI... if you're running longer than 35ft., it would make sense but there is a solution for that.

My screen is covered in sparkles...they follow the outlines in the images. I haven't noticed it on my BD, but on my Stranglehold demo it did it when I switched from 1080p to 720p...it's also done it on both Ps3 and Ps2 games. It's really the only problem I have.

If you're running the HDMI through a receiver, try going direct to the display as a test and to narrow down the possibilities. If the HDMI run is longer than 35ft, get a PureLink all fiber optic HDMI cable. In those longer lengths, copper sucks and gets progressively worse.

I get that on my plasma, mostly when I first turn on to a black screen, or I change from 1080 to 720 on a black screen. I don't think it is anything to worry about, unless they persist for more than a minute or two.

If it's persistent and you're connecting the PS3 via HDMI, it could be that you have bad HDMI cables. If that's what your issue is, you can try to order some HDMI certified cables from somewhere like monoprice.com.

I've got 7 different HDMI cables...2 are from monoprice and I've tried them all. At on time or another I'll get the sparkles...I have no idea why.

That happened to me, when my friend up-scaled my Justice League to HD for my ipod and occasionally it would do a green "wipe" over and then be fine again. All i can tell you it has to do with upscaling gone wrong. Its not ur PS3 or anything like that. Its a glitch that occurs when ur trying to play a higher format then what u can put out. Thank god it hasnt happen to me yet, i have a regular TV and nothing yet. SO FINGERS CROSS!

Well I keep hoping firmware updates will alleviate the problem. Sometimes I can go a month or 2 before and incident, but then it happens. It only happens maybe once or twice in a normal month and I can just shut it off and it's fine next time, but I just want to know why or what is doing it. Thanks for all your replies guys.

Once or twice a month? There's are issues that can cause this problem. One is poor power quality. Do you have your PS3 hooked into a uninterruptible power supply? If you don't, I highly recommend it.

Like a Brickwall or something? I'm not real savvy with the power supplies, but give me some options and I'll look into them. I'm hooked into a Monster surge protector...I didn't buy it because it was the best...just because Best Buy had it and I needed one.
