Default News article on blu....from the future!

Lol the date on this article is tomorrow for some reason, but it was a fun read that I think the average consumer could understand very well.

I think the date has something to do with the time zones. It IS tomorrow in Australia right now.

Nice article. Thanks for the link. Interesting test also...

To investigate one of the less-publicised benefits of Blu-ray movies, a Sony engineer in Sydney recently attached a copy of Casino Royale to his shoe with Blu Tack.

Blu-ray, Blu Tack. It seemed a natural, almost logical way to test the durability of the high-definition format. He strode around the office at North Ryde, then put the disc in a player.

The result? A fast-paced thriller of a film and one that by all accounts played without problems. So, tick, durability is one proven advantage, though probably not the biggest.

Blu-ray discs are merely scratch resistant. They are not scratch proof. I have rented movies on Blu-ray where the disc turned out to be scratched. Once a scratch is on the playing surface there is a strong chance the disc won't load at all. I've had rental discs even fail to load because of finger print smudges. Thankfully those can be wiped clean from the disc surface.

That trick of attaching the disc to a bottom of a shoe and walking around on it may seem impressive. But it should not serve as a signal for people to do stupid, abusive things to Blu-ray discs -especially rental discs that do not belong to them.

I rented a copy of Wanted recently from Hollywood Video and was shocked to see counter personnel digging through a stack of bare BDs laying on each other like a pile of drink coasters. Luckily the disc played without any problems. Still, the store's disc handling practices are not very good.

i got the bladerunner blu from netflix and it didn't start at all. just sounded like my ps3 was struggling. i took it out and found one tiny slice of a scratch on it. i think blu-ray is scratch resistant because it can't afford not to be.

ps, i love the way blus feel on the edges compared to other discs
