Memoirs of a Geisha has been released on Blu-ray in Italy ("Memorie di una Geisha"). I just received it and it played fine on my U.S. Samsung, so it is save to assume that it is an all-region release. PQ is decent, audio is DD 5.1 in English and Italian. There are optional Italian subtitles. The disc has 132 minutes of extra featurettes.
Edit: There are no special features on the disc. The featurettes I mentioned are indicated on the back cover ("14 filmati di approfondimento sottotitulati in italiano") but are not on the disc. Last edited by Konrad; 04-06-2007 at 08:56 PM. |

No 5.1 PCM? Interesting, since this is a SPHE release. Which company released it in Italy?

A company by the name of "Eagle Pictures". The movie itself is a co-production of Columbia Pictures and Dreamworks SKG. I was also disappointed that there was no PCM 5.1 track on this disc. The featurettes I mentioned in my first post exist only on the back cover. The disc has no extra features. However, having watched it now, I can say that the image quality is solid as a rock, way better than the NTSC DVD I also own. I love this movie very much and I am happy to have it in high definition now. For those who are not that impatient I would honestly recommend to wait for a future (but not yet announced) U.S. SPHE release which will probably better this one at least in the audio department.

Does anybody know when this is being ported to Blu-Ray? It's my FAVORITE movie of all time. I'm infatuated with Ziyi Zhang ["Sayuri"]. She's a very gifted and talented actress. I believe she'll look even more exquisite in High Definition.
I'd honestly buy 3 copies: one for decorating my room, one for watching, and one as a replacement. ![]() |

Off topic but why is she known as Ziyi Zhang? It's Zhang Zi Yi. Agents, I tell you...
Zhang is the family name. But the Chinese always put the family name first. fuad |
