Square-Enix to announce next gen MMO at E3? Be different than FF XI - Blu-ray Forum

"Scuttlebutt Around The Industry suggets that Square Enix will finally unveil the follow-up to their almost 7 year-old massively multiplayer online RPG, Final Fantasy XI, at this June's E3 convention in Los Angeles. It's designed to coexist with (i.e., not replace) Square's long-running MMO, and FFXI Producer Hiromichi Tanaka tells us that the "next-generation MMO that we're working on is going to be different than Final Fantasy XI. And even though we have the same staff working on the project, we're not going to make something that'll be exactly like FFXI." With Square Enix's next time-sink just over the horizon, we decided to compile a wish list of elements that Square's next MMO should add- while ditching a lot of the dead weight found in FFXI."

if they were not blinded by Microcrap's money, they team up with Sony (Everquest 1 and 2) and use the PSN for a lag free, with adult players MMORPG instead of releasing an under developed product (like Last Remnant or Infinite undiscovery) with 99% screaming brats.

SOE is way too busy with their products (expansions to Everquest I and II, DC Universe, The Agency, and a couple of other products), I just hope SOE starts making good games again.

I would suggest teaming with NCSoft, who made Guild Wars, City of Heros, City of Villains, Tabula Rasa, and more. I think they have the most MMOs out right now.

I bet this has something to do w/ their knock against the programability of the PS3...

I can see it happening....SE announces exclusive MMO w/XXXX....I stated it here first..you guys just watch.

I just can't bring myself to pay a monthly fee to play a game... If it's free, great! But if it's not, it's not for me.

After FFXI, I will never play an MMORPG again in my life. It was such a horrible time sink for me.

And I highly doubt anything will be competitive with WoW anytime soon.

No other game have I spent so much of my time chooping wood to make shields I turned into my characters job.. chopping wood.

The game used to be free to play played it for years one day they decided to make it pay to play...

I would sit next to the armor shop and sell better shields you know those ranks that were in between and I always underselled the armor shop..

Sometimes I gave a free sample so more would spread rumors of my great shields.

That was always my parting gift to any party a shield to each member.

Such a game would be a great excuse to get the new PS3 chat pad...and in fact it would be great to bundle the two together, but I think such bundles only involve exclusive games and I doubt this would be that.

I personally don't like the idea of the chat pad my keyboard sits next to my ps3, and a mouse should I need it.

With regards to FFXI, I was the other way around. I didn't have the 360 chatpad while i was playing the game, and now that I have it I think it would be a better experience with it.

It looks really uncombable to me...
Im not even sure how you one would use it, I know my fingers wont reach it without putting the controller on the floor...
