I've always wondered - why does...be ready for this one...every speaker manufacturer proclaim itself the best of the best? Some examples:
DefTech: 'The Leader in High-performance speakers.' Klipsch: 'A leading global manufacturer of high-performance loudspeakers' Revel: 'The World's Finest Loudspeakers' Monitor Audio: 'British loudspeaker engineering at is finest' JBL: 'Making the world play catch-up' Polk: 'Listen to the Difference' Paradigm: 'The Ultimate in Sound for Music and Home Theater' Aperion Audio: 'The Best Home Theater Speakers' Understandably, these are all low to mid-level brands (I KNOW that Monitor and Paradigm have fantastic offerings at the higher end, can you wait until I get to the disclaimer?) Not that I'm calling out any manufacturers at all whatsoever, please make note of this. I know some of you are touchy about manufacturers, especially when it's about the brands you chose. This isn't about this. I've always been taught that speaker sound is subjective, and it does depend on each person's ear - but I can't say I've seen this happen in other consumer products! And for reinforcement, again, don't take any of this personally. I just want to know your thoughts on the competitiveness of the audio business. Especially in the entry to mid-level stages. Totem Acoustic proclaims to "Unleash Your Soul"...I have their speakers and would gladly recommend them to others, but my soul was unleashed long before I considered them to be a part of the sound I wanted. It's all corporate gibberish, but it makes them feel special! |

Big Daddy Subwoofers: Greatest in the world, PERIOD.
![]() Anyway, this is the nature of a capitalist economy. Marketing has more to do with the success of a product than quality. Many great products fail because they do not do a good job of marketing. Last edited by Big Daddy; 12-20-2008 at 03:51 AM. |

Manufacturers can't go the "shy and retiring" route to reach a certain market niche - which is those folks with limited familiarity with audio equipment, and who are looking for reassurance that the high prices are worth paying. Advertising bluster is common at all levels - entry level junk, mid-level audio gear, and at the high end too. |

The Energy Story:
Sure, these speakers boast truly accurate treble and midrange response, wide dispersion and incredible stereo imaging. But the real point is when you crank the volume, what you’ll hear is sound perfected. What you’ll feel is Pure Energy. It's true that informed audio enthusiasts don't pay much attention to ad slogans like these. They are just supernumerary sentences that go in one eye and out the other. I really didn't notice the ad until after I bought mine. ![]() ![]() |
