Default Magazines

Im looking to order a magazine subscription. In you guys opinion, what would be a good magazine for a person who not completely clueless about home entertainment but at the same time is not well versed. I would like it to have tons of reviews of all major components as well as featured articles. Thanks for the input guys

Home Theater or Sound and Vision seem to be what you are looking for. Consumer Reports is fine for the guy who just wants a TV for watching Oprah, but the reviews are useless for anyone with even a casual interest in home theater.

All of the magazines are worthless. Very little valuable content. Just go to Borders and buy a coffee and read the mags while you are there. It'll take you all of 15 minutes to look at all of them.

If it's free, you can't really go wrong, but there's not much great out there.

Home Theater used to be good, but was sold a few years ago, and now it's not very good. A lot of stuff that is covered in the magazine is out of the price-range of most people. So I guess it's like the SI swimsuit magazine for home theater enthusiasts.

Sound & Vision is maybe a little better, but they never really compare different items, which would be helpful.

Neither magazine seems to give any bad reviews, which kind of makes you wonder. Maybe they only seek out the best equipment to review (doubtful) or maybe to keep the magazine alive they have to rely on ad revenue from all these A/V companies, and don't want to offend them.

Unfortunately there aren't really any other options, so if you are sure you want to get one of these, I guess just flip a coin.

Agreed.

I used to read the mags, but I find reading the threads here and at AVS a lot better at reviewing hardware. I mean the article has one reviewer, these forums have tens or even hundreds of reviewers and you can get feedback to your questions a lot easier here.

If your into film and photography I say Creative cow you should be able to get a free subscription I don't think they charge.

They do physical and electrical copies.
