Default Htpc

anyone else use a HTPC, and run audio through coax(rca)??? Seems I get distortion though my center channel when playing movies through my PC, but not my PS3. No, I can't run HDMI into my receiver...I will be upgrading next year. Thoughts?

im using analog connections(mini-jack to rca) for my blu-ray playback from my computer.

im using an x-fi xtrememusic coupled with an amd nforce4 chipset based system.

listing the kind of hardware u r using (computer and receiver) would help immensely, including the software you are trying to use for playback.

and im assuming you are trying to play blu-rays?

I'm basically using SPDIF passthrough for xvid and MKV files to play off the HTPC. I have the option through the back for coax audio out and in. I run the video through a DVI adaptor that is then HDMI from adaptor to plasma. But again, this is more audio related. The the RCA (coax) audio out runs directly from the computer to the receiver digital coax audio input. That's all there is to it.

i did the same thing for awhile (spdif) and it worked fine. then i looked at the mess that was the wires and wanted to puke. considering you have a ps3 have you consider playing everything off of that. transfer the xvids and converted mkv's into the ps3. also noticed you said you plan on upgrading to an HDMI connection for your htpc next year. seems wasted that you're not playing media off the ps3. i know im off topic but i went through the same thing and just eliminated using the htpc all together.

I use an SPDIF optical connector from my PC's to my receivers. Works great.

The SPDIF is on the motherboard for both PC's.

Bobby, since you've done what I've wanted to do with using the PS3 for mkv and what not, PM me or email me for info on what you did to set that up. I'm lost when it comes to the thousand of sites telling you how to play HD contect through MKV container on a PS3. I may have to upgrade my PS3 harddrive before I solely use it. Thanks!
