Default PS3 - Managing Photos

AFAICT the PS3 will only sort photos by month, year & all. Is that correct? Can you not name folders yourself? This just doesn't seem very user friendly. Help.

There's no way right now, as far as I know, to create your own photo directory within the PS3 itself. However, if you have a flash drive or a memory card (CF, SD, MStick), you can make your own folders. Alternatively, if you have an external USB drive, you can create the folders in there.

The PS3 needs the ability to create folders for photos and music files.

I would also like to see the ability for folders in videos as well.

One for trailers, shows, movies, etc.

I would prefer if they added a user defined tag attribute/category that allowed multiple items to be entered and it was hooked up to cycle via the square button just like Genre, Album, Artists under music.

Problem with folders is the difficulty in having items under more than one category - without copying. Tags avoid that problem and give you folders as well by grouping on common values automatically. In fact I think that's how music and photos are working anyway - just can't customize it yet.

It's just so limited in functionality. It's quite shocking actually. I can do more with my xbr 960 tv.

We are setting up a slide show for our daughter's engagement party. First preference would be to have the pics display randomly but it won't do that. So then I'm thinking we'll put the pics in the order we want using filename. But in order to do that it has to be set to all which brings in all the pics on the PS3 so I had to dump the pics I took of my PS3 the day I got it onto an sd card (the sd card is only 128M and won't hold all the pics).

I hope this is something that improves over time with fw upgrades.

Not in front of the PS3 but I thought the triangle button brought up an overlay menu while viewing a photo and you could use shuffle for photos as well..maybe it was just music. Still may not be what you need..just a (maybe incorrect) thought
