Default Receiver problem.. shuts down automatically.

I have a Sony BDP350 hooked up to my Sony STRDE598 via optical. I was watching I Robot last night and everytime there was a loud scene the receiver would show on the display "Protected" and shut down. Quieter scenes with just dialogue would play fine. My setting for the receiver is at A.F.D. Auto and the little blue light is on.

I do not have a manual and I couldn't find anything online, I sent an email to Sony support (nothing back yet) but I thought I'd try here too.

If anyone has input or advice that would be great. Thanks.

one of your speaker wires is touching something it shouldn't.

Re-wire them. (at both receiver and speaker end)

That was fast, thanks. I'm on my way out so I'll try later tonight. I failed to mention that this is my older receiver and brand new BD player, DVDs and digital cable wouldn't present the problem. Could it be a co-incident or something not agreeing with the BD player?

usually happens when speaker wires short out. the receiver shuts down as a safety precaution. perhaps one of the wires got loose or frayed if you havent messed with them lately.

That's probably it, when I hooked the BD player up I pulled the receiver out a bit too... that's likely the source. Thanks guys.

Really cannot explain this phenomena...but when a receiver shuts itself down like that...more than likely its the speaker wire. Or even a defective speaker?
