First of all this title will not be released until April 24th so one can not gauge accurate sales until the item ships. To be fair this is a very important title to compare format sales since the HD-DVD version does not have a DVD side. Everyone buying the Planet Earth HD-DVD can only play it in a HD-DVD player. So once this title is released lets see which format sales more discs. In theory BLU-RAY should sell more discs unless people who purchased HD-DVD players contain a population of people that love documentaries.
** Any title that is released in both formats and is a HD-DVD only with no DVD version on the other side is a accurate title when comparing it to BLU-RAY sales **

I wonder if people like Bill Gates could afford to purchase several thousands of copies of Planet Earth to give to friends? Then again maybe Bill Gates is not interested in documentaries.

I'll purchase this sometime, as I think the visuals are just amazing, but I'm saving money for actual movies, not a documentary. May 22nd is where it's at for BD. That won't be an organized mass-buying, it will just be many people wanting many of the titles released that week. I'm getting five.

I want HD-DVD to go, too, but the BDA needs to get BD-J finished for Warners then more big titles need to come out ASAP. If only they could have really capitalized on March, when HD-DVD only had a few releases. Putting out more big movies like CR then would have helped immensely.

Also, HDTV1080p, I like that you edited for "grammer," which is spelled grammAr.

Can your re-phrase? I'm not sure what you are trying to say here.

Look at the 45 day curves. And the Home Media Magazine data for the last couple of weeks. There's no question HD-DVD has been trending better in the last month.

OK - you think that is really happening? I give the HD DVD guys credit for successfully manipulating amazon data last weekend, but I think they did it honestly.

Universal started releasing content again, in the last month, right? Seems that improvement was inevitable.

It seems to me the measure of success is definitely lower for HD DVD. HD DVD fans cheer when they aren't being trounced completely, and Blu-ray fans start getting worried when they aren't totally crushing HD DVD.

yuup...I won't be worried unless HD-DVD actually catches up to BD with a 1:1 ratio (since inception)

That's the great debate of course, whether it was lack of new content for the 1st quarter that was holding sales back on the HD DVD side.

Will be an interesting few months ahead to see what happens.

Comeback or not, Blu ray needs to step it up or this war will go on a lot longer than people think. I love Blu ray, but this war could already have been over with better current releases. I understand movies like POTC and Spider-Man will be coming out, but why wait to bomb them into oblivion?
Blu ray is giving HD-DVD too much time to mount a defense as futile as it may be. If people walked into their local Best Buy or wherever today and saw an overwhelming selection of Blu ray blockbuster movies it would be an easy choice. If someone wants to watch GI Jane, fine, but put out some movies that NO ONE can resist if you want to win this thing and win it now.

What a joke this Planet Earth title is not released until April 24th. Neilson Videoscan will have more accurate numbers.
