Default Surprising lack of Iron Man

Hey All

Today I finally got back to the city to return some gifts and to get some Blu's I wanted. I picked up the Limited Edition of THE DARK KNIGHT and the edition of HELLBOY II with the little Golden Soldier. And I was planning on getting those and IRON MAN. But I went to every store in the city, and surprisingly enough, there was not a single regular copy of IRON MAN on the shelves.

This really blew my mind since before DARK KNIGHT, IRON MAN was the top selling Blu-Ray. And I decided to pass on it the first time around, figuring that I could get it for Xmas and that it was a title that would be around for a long time. That there would be tons of copies around for whenever. But I just could not find it anywhere. I ended up asking the guys at HMV to put aside one of three copies coming in on Tuesday. So I'll be getting that on the 30, along with SERENITY and THE TRUMAN SHOW. And then I'll be taking a month off of getting Blu's. Nothing's coming out in January that I want.

Has anyone had trouble getting a disc that you think will be around forever and then be surprised to find that it's gone?

Not a Blu-ray but DVDs actually.

There's a stand-up comedian that is extremely famous in France called Gad Elmaleh. He recently released a new show on DVD and so I decided to get his 3 previous releases.

Little did I know that the first one has become a collectible and sold for 90€ whereas the second one is out-of-print and sold at double its original value.

I managed to get that second one along with the 2 newest ones for about 50€ but had I bought them all as they came out, I'd have gotten all four for cheaper.

Although my stories differs from yours as I originally didn't plan to buy these in the first place.

Although that HAS happened to me, but more with CDs that are like a limited edition or something. It's really annoying.

This actually happened to me earlier tonight. I was at Wal-Mart around 1 a.m. or so and I was looking for Tropic Thunder blu-ray and they were all sold out. I decided ok, no big deal I'll just go to the other Wal-Mart about 10 min. down the road. I went there only to find out they were sold out too. I couldn't believe it. So I have to put that off for a couple of more days until they get a new shipment. That sucked

I've seen the Wall-Mart in my region out of a lot of things on BD, it's surprising cause it's suppose to be a bad year for econimics yet things are selling out quickly. Could it be the numbers release for selling by companies are lower then they usualy do since they fear things would not be seeling well because of the recession?

My Wal-Mart is always out of Blu Rays. They might have some more in the back they have had to go get some from there for me a few times.

Yeah I work at WM and this is so true, lots of blu's in the back.We usually only keep one to two copies of our blu's out on the floor because of high theft. Drawback to that is no one seems to enforce the restocking of the items in a timely manner. This of course makes us look out of stock. With a treasure trove of blu's in the back.

Always ask them to check in the back. Sure they might go back there and pick their nose, but you might get lucky with someone who cares.

Also to the OP, Iron Man and Transformers is some of the titles that I did notice we are out of a lot at our store, on Blu and DvD. I noticed this trend the week heading into Black Friday.

As far as going to get something myself and being shocked its not in stock, it's only happened a few times. Usually on older back catalog titles that get picked up by the hardcore buyers before I get off work to go and hunt my own copy down. New first time releases I never have a problem finding even weeks later.

Are you looking for the standard copy of the movie, or the collectors' set with the mask-shaped case? I found that when I went out on boxing day, there weren't many standard cases, but alot of the collectors' set. Noticed this at a few stores.

I went to Costco the day after Christmas because they had the Iron Man blu for $20.00. There was only 1 copy left when I got there.

sort of off topic here..but has anyone noticed their wal-marts selling Iron Man without the slip cover? It looks so stupid to me as nothing about the movie is on the case without it
