Yep, it sure looks promising. It's a Miramax film in the US so it should come to blu-ray. I just thought it might be soon, since the European HD-DVD is already in the stores.

Amazon has a link, but apparently it is not available. At least there is a raving review on the movie:

Plus there is an HD trailer here:

Picked up the HD-DvD of this, which annoyingly defaults to a German soundtrack. Looks very nice indeed. Looking forward to watching what looks like an interesting and different movie.

It's distributed by Ascot-Elite in Europe, but it's Miramx in the US, so there is hope

There's gotta be someone connected to the film or at Miramax we can contact... This is a must-have.

One of the messages on the site asks about the DVD release in North America and it was supposed to be Feb./07. Must have been delayed for some reason. I've e-mailed the director although he may not know either since the studio makes those decisions usually. We'll see...

I just found that Renaissance will be on regular DVD July 24.

http://videoeta.com/movie/85423

It only shows SD DVD, nothing else, but it's a start!

Cool. I haven't heard from the director so either he doesn't check e-mail that often or... he's dead! Bummer about the HD-DVD... like Sin City, this title screams to be released on BD damnit!

Buena Vista is distributing Renaissance in the US, so it should come to BD some time.

DavePS3, Sin City is a Buena Vista release. It's been announced for BD, but no date yet. I've heard Robert Rodriguez is/was waiting to finish the promotional tour for Grindhouse before overseeing the transfer. I'd say the promotional stuff is over, so hopefully we'll see it come out the same time as 300, and get a double-dose of Frank Miller!

Renaissance is now up for pre-order on amazon.fr

No specs yet, and I don't know about region coding on this one either.

I have it in the regular DVD format. I agree that Blu-Ray would add to it.

Started the film, but at about 1am, and was really, really tired. Only got about 30 min into it. Very good, but I was just too tired to continue it. Animation always looks significantly better on Blu-Ray, and this one will certainly benefit from the added contrast. It looks like a black-and-white "A Scanner Darkly" in terms of style.

I own the french Blu Ray and it is absolutely gorgeous. The motion capture technics are indeed wonderful after watching the mediocre Beowulf, Renaissance is a real breathe of fresh air.

As for the movie, it's a strange mix of Sci-fi à la Blade Runner and various movies. I owes a lot to several influential movies (including Mamuro Oshii or even Sin City), but the lack of originality, some risible dialogues and some blatant incoherences arecounterbalanced by the amazing look of the movie. The definition of the faces are close to perfection. The black and white tones are breathtaking... but also a very believable Paris in 2054. And a very desorientating opening sequence. I mean, really, it's a experience worth the Blu ray acquisition. (VC-1 Codec)
As for the french DTS HD Master Audio : Wow! It's an explosive one, highly dynamic, full of sonic details and a pulsating soundtrack.

Of full of supplements as well.
