Default Surge protection question

I just wanted to know if there's a huge diffrence between a surge protector from best buy that cost $ 149 vs a $12 job from staples ? I'm plugging it into a sony bravia 4100.

there is a huge difference. you get more protection from the better surge protectors. the one from staples is probably just a power strip

Depends on the model, but at that price range you can start getting into voltage regulation, which controls not only the spikes, but the dips and overages that can occur.
