Default Does it matter if a disc has a bit of fog on it ?

Does it matter if a disc has a bit of fog on it ? Like one of my movies has fog on it, looks like it is dirty and all. There are no scratches at all. I waped it with a glasses cloth and it removed it a bit. Can this affect the reading of the movie or cause eventual problems ?

Does the disc still play OK? Was it clean when it was new and did the 'fog' develop over time? Or was it 'foggy' from the get-go?

I've never encountered a Blu-ray disc (or DVD, for that matter) in that condition, but I've had a few older audio CDs that got 'cloudy' after a while--a sure sign of CD rot (along with 'bronzing', where the discs turned a bronze color). This has been well documented but is now essentially a thing of the past. Bottom line: the CDs didn't play any more. If you've got a Blu-ray disc in that condition, I'd return it.

I had something similar with a DVD once and I can tell you the DVD was dead.
Let us know how it goes with your BD.

I think I have seen what you are describing. There's a slight haze on the underside of the disc - but it's on the surface, not inside the disc. It wipes off easily with a lint-free cloth.

I've never seen it effect playback, but I usually wipe it off just to make the disc cleaner.

It's foggy because it was dirty and i breathed on it to remove the dust with the glasses tissue you wipe your glasses with. It took off the dust but there is a bit of fog .
